I would appreciate it if anyone could help me select a topic for my college English essay.

I don't want to waste anybody's time so before I go on I want you to know that in order to help me you must have read one of these short essays:

"Politics and the English Language"
"Mother Tongue"
"If Black English Isn't a Language, Then Tell Me, What Is?"
"The Checklist"
"What's So Bad About Hate?"
"The Selfless Gene"
"Body Ritual Among the Nacirema"
"A Modest Proposal"
"Letter from Birmingham Jail"
"A More Perfect Union"
"Is Google Making Us Stupid"
"I'm So Totally, Digitally, Close to You"
"What High School Is"
"First Kill All the School Boards"
"Hidden Intellectualism"
"Agonism in the Academy"

Here is the assignment from my teacher:

"I am asking you to take one previously assigned text (above) and apply it to a specific piece of popular culture. In other words, does the popular culture example support or contradict the author's argument?

This is not a research paper; focus only on one essay and one piece of popular culture.

Try to focus on a piece of popular culture that is fairly specific: a single episode of a TV show, a TV commercial, a song, a print advertisement, a single magazine, a billboard, etc. In other words, you are looking for a primary source.

Regardless of what type of popular culture you wish to focus on, you must be able to watch or read it over and over. If you choose an episode of a TV show, you must have a recorded copy so that you can watch it repeatedly and develop specific evidence (like quotes).

The most important item to keep in mind is that you want to make a clear, focused argument about how the essay from the book can be applied to the popular culture example. Choose one of these:

1) The pop culture example provides insightful evidence that helps to prove the essay's argument. (Remember, you are not agreeing directly. You are simply claiming this one case provides further support for the essay's argument.)

2) The pop culture example provides evidence that contradicts the essay's argument. (Remember, you are not disagreeing directly. You are simply claiming this one case contradicts the essay's argument.)"

This assignment is a bit hard for me because between college and work I hardly have enough time to engage in any pop culture as of recently (TV, music, etc.) and cannot think of anything. If anybody could please list some pop culture examples related to any of these essays arguments I would very much appreciate it. Thank you!

First, Isugjest that you read one of the titles since I nor anyone else can tell you what to write. I have read "A Modest Proposal" and have found it to be quiet hilarious even though its about eating babies for the greater good of Ireland. The reason for the laughter is that the author had got so fed up with waiting for the power players to help the economy that he wrote and sent something to them so outrageous that they had to pay attention to society.
