What is the connection between the mother's self-image and her problems with being Christopher's mother?

How can i write a good thesis statement to start off my essay?

Some points i've come up with..
- She's impatient and likes to have a controlled environment which doesn't involve thinking hard about everything she does. For example, hugging Christopher makes him feel uncomfortable and makes him pull away.

- Christopher's mother chooses the easy way out by going to London, which is like her personality. She always chooses the easy way out, writing letters and waiting till Christopher finds her?

This one is confusing. I like the other one better:
