Hello Everyone! My professor has given us an argument essay to write using environmental sustainability as a theme. I'm choosing to write about global warming and how I think it's a hoax/lie and how so much money has been made off of it. How the environment movement was started from it. I just don't know how I would write a thesis statement/question from it. I would greatly appreciate any and all help. Thank You
If you are to write a thesis statement it has to have some connection to environmental sustainability. This involves taking action to protect the environment to sustain life on earth. Therefore, if you present an argument on global warming it has to be in connection with environmental stability. For example, a thesis statement may present how profits to increase awareness for global warming has not solved the environmental changes that need to be made. This is a very broad thesis, but you want to be more specific. A helpful hint to help you write a thesis statement is to first gather supporting evidence for your topic. If there is enough information, you could write a good thesis statement. Sometimes you could begin to write a thesis and after the research is done and the paper is written, it doesn't support your original thesis statement.
My advice would be to find out how much supporting evidence you have, begin writing the paper, and keep in mind that you are arguing about environmental sustainability. Also, you can think about the impact global warming has already had with regard to climate, health, etc.
I would open with mentioning various forms of environmental sustainability and the significance of them. However, I'd then draw attention to how much attention global warming has received over the years and close the opening statement by explaining how it will be the main focus of your paper...Mention why it has become important to you and provide supporting evidence/examples throughout the body of your paper, in order to persuade the reader to understand and possibly agree with your point.
Here is a structure to your consideration:
- Opening paragraph: appoint certain main issue concerning global warming; state your position in general which is your opinion that global warming is hoax
- Body paragraph (may be more than one): idea; reason of this idea; examples/supporting facts; effect of this reason. If you have more than one reasons, split it into different paragraphs.
- Concluding paragraph: rephrase your general opinion towards this issue; your hopes/motivation/solution

I would not write an argumentative essay about global warming being a "hoax." You would have to present incredible evidence to corroborate your assertion. Evidence that would best support a skeptical outlook would require analysis and interpretation. Therefore, you would have to familiarize yourself with the background, the theory, and the information avalanche regarding potential facts and evidences surrounding the whole issue. It's not worth it.
