Hi! I'm an international student and I'm very stressed because I have no idea of how long my essays should be. How long should be my common application essay?? And not only this one, I'm also writing the additional essays (universities supplement) and some of them do not fix a maximum of words. So how long my common application essay and my additional essays should be??

I DO NEED YOUR HELP!! THE DEADLINE IS PAST-TOMORROW!!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!

If I TALK ABOUT MUSIC IN THE COMMONAPP ESSAY, IT WILL BE THE #6 "TOPIC OF YOUR CHOICE"? Or it will fit in another category? Thank you very much again!

Hello there (again) !

For the Common App essay there are no word limit, but even if you really have a lot to say, I think you should wrap it up in something no more than 700-750 words. Otherwise it might get a little bit too long.

As for the other essays (Supplement essays) that depends on the university. For the instance, I know that Yale has a limit of 500 words, while Princeton has no limitis to its essays. Nevertheless, I think in the overall you should keep the supplement's essays something close to 500 words :) (if you can).

And for the topic, I think that might actually be a good choice even for the First topic of the Common App essay. But if you feel that it does not suit your essay, you might as well leave it to "Topic of your choice" :)

The colleges reps are gonna be reading thousands of essays so you don't wanna piss them off with an overly long essay so 500-800 words

Keep it simple. Write the essay in a Word document with a font size of no more than 12 pt., and make sure you use a clear font - something like Calibri should be fine.
