Is it safe to post my essay here? Or should I be worried about Plagiarism?

While I'm definitely not an authority on this subject, I'm pretty sure that the fact that it is dated, and has your name attached is enough to prove that the ideas are yours if you run into rouble.

plagiarism Issues?

Hey guys. I am applying for a Masters Scholarship and i have painstakingly written an SoP over the last two-three weeks...Its still in its final phases. I want feedback on it but the thing thats bothering me is how can i be sure that it wont be lifted? I know im prolly being paranoid but when you spend hours coining ideas you just develop an untrusting nature...Hoping this doesnt offend anyone and someone can put this uneasiness to rest...

Thanks.

it is unnecessary to worry about this, otherwise no one can learn from on-line feedbacks!

Well, I tend to think this way now. Online collaboration is the modern paradigm. However, I understand Waqas' concern!

If Waqas Idrees is your real name, then your essay will appear here next to it with the date you posted it, so that should put your mind at ease. Also, express your unique plans and ideas in the essay -- so that it is as unique as you are. A good essay expressed a detailed plan, and a detailed plan is particular to you.

Aside from these ideas, the truth is that you can't be sure no one will copy parts of your essay if you let people see it. So... it is what it is.

See the TOS for other useful info.

What Happens when you delete a thread?

When you delete a thread, will the essay still be available on the internet for people to see; such as if I Google search it and my essay appears even though I had deleted it.

When a thread is deleted, it will not be available on the Internet (it MAY take some time for search engines to remove the thread from their databases but it will eventually be removed completely).

I dont think there is anyway to analyze or check that the papers are not plagiarized. It depends on the morality of the forum-ers, I believe.

If you are talking about buying a paper instead of writing it, I think you are wasting your money. Maybe you have trouble writing in English, but actually you can write a list of sentences here in this forum and we will help you turn it into an essay. That is the way to become a good writer.

I want to show you this example of someone who speaks English as a SECOND LANGUAGE and has become very skillful by practicing here: https://essayforum.com/writing-3/schools-ask-students-evaluate-teachers-16684/

Even if you just write some sentences, we can help you to make them good ones, and we can use them as the topic sentences for paragraphs in your essay.

Try writing a paragraph:
Write a sentence about something.
Write a sentence with an example of what you mean.
Write another sentence to explain some more.
Write a thoughtful conclusion sentence for the paragraph.

I also hope you will help other people here by looking at other people's essays and telling them what you think about the them.

I wish I was bilingual, like you! I hope we can help you improve your writing!

It sounds like you are asking for a website where you can purchase or copy papers, put your name to them, and then turn them in without your professor knowing that you copied them from the Interent. We don't do that here.

If you are asking how you can tell whether or not a paper has been plaigiarized, there are several websites that offer plagiarizism detection. I like to use dustball.com because it doesn't require registration and is free. You can just Google some of the key phrases as well.

First Post and A Question about Posting an Essay on here!?

Hey this is my first post, and I was just wondering that if I post my essay on here for help, and someone helps me edit it, can I take my post down? This is because I don't want my teacher to perhaps go online and type an excerpt from my essay on Google and even though it would be deleted on here, Google will still show the contents of what was posted in their search results (this happened to one of my Yahoo Answers questions.) but when you click it to go here, it would say it won't exist. So that bothers me, cause I'm supposed to be doing this essay IN CLASS (high school) but I just CAN NOT focus in class with noise and other people so I'm doing it at home and will bring it into class and copy what I have written already on the outline paper she gives us! Thanks for any help!

Google will still show the contents of what was posted in their search results

Yes, it will indeed be possible for search engines to find your essay if you post it here, so don't post it if that is a concern for you. Maybe we can just do some practice writing so you can correct all your mistakes and become an expert.

If your essay is supposed to be done in class, give it a try! You seem to write very well, so you should feel confident. I know what you mean about noise and distractions, though. Let's just do some practice essays, so you'll be ready to write in class.

Hey.
I just joined and well I'm pretty confident that plagiarism cannot happen but... there's still this tiny doubt in the back of my head...

I mean sure, I've got proof..
But suppose me and the person who stole my essay applied to the same colleges with the same essay. What are the chances that the admissions officer will actually bother checking which one the original is.

So I was wondering if there was ANY way to only show my essay to regular users and moderators.
I really like the help this site gives and I really want to post my essay here to get some help but ...it's the damn worry in my head...

Hello,

I'm going to check on that for you. Please come back and visit this thread tomorrow and with any luck I might have an answer. As far as I know, though, the only way to get an edit here is to post an essay.

Thanks for joining EssayForum!!

So I was wondering if there was ANY way to only show my essay to regular users and moderators.

You could become an EF Contributor and then post your question in the private section accessible only by other contributors and moderators :). But to become a contributor you need to first help others and show your good writing and thinking skills :

I'm a bit confused about "copy-paste messages".

What if, for example, I've written an essay and I'd like to hear the feedback from as many people as possible? Is it still not okay to post my essays else where even if my propose is just to want to know other's opinions?

Hello,

It's not okay, unfortunately. Your best option is to choose one website and stick to it - not to pollute the Internet with the same/duplicate publications.

I think that it is feasible to lock the right click function. If it works, no one can right click and copy our efforts. Also you may want to prevent all the special function such as CTRL+A & CTRL+C. There are scripts online for the purpose.

So can you modify the web simply by using <body oncontextmenu="return false;">.

It should makes the web safer.

I suppose no one want to open a word and type word by word while looking at the essay.

I think this website is helpful to practice writing skills. For any essays containing confidential information, please don't post it on Essay Forum.

I completely agree with Annie Ma, with not posting anything that you feel is confidential. But, this website is really resourceful, and helpful with helping you with essays.

It depends what you mean by 'trustworthy.' You may check the thousands of posts here and make your own conclusion ;).

also it says that you need 1 credit to permanently delete a thread...is it also deleted from a google search too?

Yes, once a thread is removed it will also be removed from Google search (not usually immediately but within several days or so).

There are websites like turnitin.com that can detect plagiarism. Alot of teachers use this in highschools and colleges. Its pretty accurate from what ive seen, and awfully sensitive. I'm sure this site may have some sort of plagiarism detector back at head quarters.
himynameisamy - / 1
Nov 16, 2010   #113
There are sites that can detect plagiarism and alot of teachers and tutors have the software. It searches through Google and pages on the net and if it comes up with more that 10% similarity, it will say the paper is plagiarised. You are much better to write the essay yourself and get it checked and drafted on this site or by a teacher. Or, if you must use someone else's work for inspiration, just use the thesaurus and change the words and then alter the sentance order.

Safe to post essay?

Is it safe to post essays here? I mean, wouldn't colleges or organizations search your essays online? And if it were on a forum, would it mean that they would think of it more negatively?

Thanks

But will it still be available should problems with plagiarism arise?

i feel the same way-- however, using this website really helped me to improve my (sadly postponed last-minute) essays and turned them into something great. its still your own writing- ppl just make comments to help guide you in a direction you might overlook at first, bring you back to the prompt, or simply correct a grammar error you missed due to reading it yourself too much

I'm not sure...and since it costs money to remove them, I can't really do anything, although I still think colleges or organizations would look disapprovingly at this. :\ Can the mods help on this?
