My goal after graduating the accounting program from DePaul is to become an International Account. All throughout my educational career, I found that math was my best and preferred subject. Even during my studies in Urban Planning, I enrolled in various math classes. After graduation, I was able to teach English in Spain, which developed my interest in a career that provide the opportunities to work with other countries. Although I have been a Teacher's Assistant for almost the past three years, my interest has always been in accounting. DePaul's Master of Accounting program aligns with the path I need to follow to achieve my goals.
In order to pursue a career as an accountant, I need to learn the fundamentals. My undergraduate degree was Urban Planning, which means that I either needed to enroll in university again or pursue a post-graduate degree. For the same amount of time and resources, I chose to pursue a master's degree from DePaul; I see this as an investment in my future. The courses will not only teach me accounting, but also a wide array of business knowledge. This is useful for employment in the future. From my research, the faculty at DePaul come from diverse backgrounds in the field of accounting. Their experiences, complement my focus on international accounting. They can provide a unique insight that I can use towards a better understanding of the fundamentals. This is an essential part that I look for in a master's program.
After completing my degree, I plan to work for a Big 4 firm in Chicago. A majority of these firms now have locations worldwide, which aligns with my goals. In order to even begin my career as an accountant, I need to set myself apart. A master's degree shows my investment in the field, these firms want dedicated applicants. A quality education from DePaul proves to future employers that I have the motivation and skills for advancement within the companies. Establishing my career with a Big Four firm creates the foundation for a solid future in the field of accounting.
In essence, DePaul has the best resources and location to start my career as an accountant. I will have support from the career center, professors with experience in the field, and also the large alumni network. Chicago is also home to many multinational companies, which can only enhance my work experience and provide ways to advance in the field of international accounting. Although I come from a teaching background, this can only help my career. Instead, focus on explaining why this career change is crucial to your professional goals. It is one thing to say that your goal is to work for a Big 4 Chicago firm. It is another to have the reviewer understand what the objective of this career goal is? Why are you so interested in changing career paths? How will changing career paths help you develop a more useful persona? You don't need to discuss the academic team of DePaul as they will not be the people employing you. What you should be discussing is how the internship or other training programs that the university offers in support of the masters training will be beneficial to you as an international accountant. You may also want to consider explaining, why you did not go for accounting immediately as a college major when you explain the career change considerations. It will help the reviewer understand why you would want to pursue your professional goals in that field at the moment.
