MSc in Geography program personal statement

Dear Sir/Mam,

Namaste and greetings! My name is xxxxxxx, a geomatics engineering graduate from Nepal, working in the field of Geoinformation and spatial science. I completed my Bachelor's Degree from xxxxxxxx University in 2020 and am currently working as Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Officer at xxxxx and as course instructor of xxxxxxxxxxx. At present, I am seeking an opportunity to pursue my Master's degree in Msc in Geography. After reviewing the curricula of various universities, MS in Geography program geospatial techniques concentration at the xxxxxxxxx University well with my goals and interests

As a geomatics engineer, I got the opportunity to work in multiple organisations, collaborating with the local government for spatial data acquisition and analysis to carry out development works and assessment projects. I have been working explicitly in the field Drone, Photogrammetry, Remote sensing and GIS mapping for more than two years and got the chance to contribute with my best efforts in the projects municipal drone mapping and geodatabase preparation projects, feasibility study of Phukot Karnali PROR hydroelectric project (480MW), Preparation of 3d model of Changunarayan Temple (UNESCO world heritage site) just to name a few. I have been sharing my gained knowledge and experience by involving in multiple training and workshops as geospatial trainer especially in application of Drone and geospatial data for Disaster risk reduction and emergency organised by different governmental organisations; Nepal Police Academy, Land management and training centre, Water Resource Research and Development Centre. My undergraduate study at xxxxxxx University helped me to get these opportunities by providing a strong, coherent conceptual and practical foundation in the courses focusing on Spatial data acquisition, analysis using different software algorithms and delivering prominent results providing a broader perspective to see the real world implications of our knowledge. I also co-authored a research paper, published in Journal on geoinformatics entitled xxxxxx xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxx. Moreover, group activities and my involvement in students' club activities as Vice president, program chief of club's annual event and volunteering in numerous programs have enhanced confidence in public speaking, work as a team and value team spirit.

As we are living in an inevitably changing world that is being guided by innovation, constant progress in technology and development. But, the threats like unplanned urbanisation, unsustainable development and human activities such as mining, deforestation for raw materials without considering environmental impact has adversely affected our world, the earth and its natural cycle. We are facing global problems like climate change, global warming, food crises and health hazards like pollution just to name a few. These complex phenomenons can be measured, modelled, analysed and visualised by acquiring geospatial data with suitable multiple attributes through various tools and algorithms in order to make crucial decisions that are based on scientific information making them more reliable and sustainable. These pivotal data and their use becomes crucial in developing countries like Nepal for sustainable development, formulation of environmental friendly policies and contributing to address the global problems like climate change, hunger, and energy crisis. Unfortunately, developing countries like Nepal fall behind in innovation, merely depending on traditional methods of surveying for data collection and inadequate technology ultimately leading to less precise data collection and outcomes. This results in misguided planning and implementation of policies that are not appropriate to address current problems that are becoming more prominent. So, developing nations like Nepal require more experienced individuals and experts that could help to research and pave the path for innovation to solve these issues.

A chance to study at xxxxxxxxxx university in xxxxxx will give me an impeccable exposure to learn advanced technologies and acclimate them to the unique context of my country. Beside the fact that the university is known for its innovation, practical education and cutting edge technology, I believe the M.S. in Geography is a perfect course that will provide me comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge required for my future career goal as a Remote sensing/GIS Consultant or entrepreneur. Through this program and hands-on research, I hope to achieve practical and in-depth knowledge, a 360-degree view of the implication and impact of geoinformation science on the world. Furthermore, the weather patterns, heartily welcoming people, the food and culture, misty mountains and the history of North Carolina became another reason for me to apply to ECU. Besides, my ability to connect and communicate easily with people around me would help me to adapt in a cross-cultural atmosphere.

My academic background, my experience and eagerness to learn makes a capable candidate fit for this program. After completing my graduate studies, I intend to accumulate experiences and expand my network with fellow researchers and professionals for collaborative works. Finally, I hope to establish a new research institution upon returning back to my country and collaborate with existing institutions to improve the education and technology in the geospatial science so that we could address global problems by conducting research on yield estimation, drought and crop monitoring, waste management and finding innovative ideas for development helping my country to achieve United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Thank You !

Sincerely,

xxxxxxxx

One of the reasons that the forum members are required to provide unredacted essays is that complete information is required to properly assess the content of the essay. Placing your name publicly ensures your public document cannot be plagiarized. Allowing Us to know what places/people/ publications are actually mentioned helps us assess the validity of the statements or if additional information is needed.

When information is blacked out, we get confused as to what is being discussed. How exactly do you expect to get useful advice if you cannot trust us with the needed information? Advicing at this forum does not work that way. Since you do not trust me and the other forum members then you have no place at this forum. We cannot help you with your essay.
