My personal interest in the Computer Science and Engineering education is deep-rooted in my desire to forge ahead in this field by constantly innovating and getting involved in doing cutting edge research has further aggravated me to pursue graduate studies. Moreover, after taking a multitude of computer science tracks over my academic career I have perceived that most of the courses tend to build knowledge of subject superficially, broadening familiarity over several areas of computer science rather than building a concentrated profundity of knowledge in any one topic. Now, I have decided to focus on areas such as Artificial Intelligence and Network Security as my further fields of specialization since these topics have thrilled me the most and I have already had a glimpse of learning projects in these fields during my under graduation. The fascinating aspect of becoming Computer Science professional is the broad range of opportunities available around the world. With such a versatile Engineering degree, the possibilities for my future are exciting and rewarding. Indeed, having entered this splendid Engineering and Technology world, I am more than greedy for knowledge and to take up research in this particular field. I have strong reasons to believe that I will thrive both as a Graduate student and later, as a researcher.
The syllabus in my schooling years inculcated in me an interest in field of Science and Technology. Further, my undergraduate education provided me with a strong and comprehensive background in Computer Science. Moreover, it has prepared me for the depth and commitment required of graduate research. The undergraduate curriculum covered Discrete Mathematics, Probability & Statistics and Theoretical Computer Science. As supplement to my scope of knowledge, I learned by myself Combination Mathematics and the Science of Programming. During the later years of studies, I nurtured a growing interest in the area of Database Management, Operating Systems, Computer Networks and Web Security due to its immense real life applications and wide scope of research. Besides, my interest in Graphics and Database led me to prepare eye-catching illustrations to explain the electronic models and I have developed many Software programs in C, UNIX, and Java. The journey so far at the College has been very inspiring and played an important part in grooming my personality. Every event in the college was a learning experience in its own way.
Although I entered college without a clear research direction, the Computer Science and Engineering Program at Oriental College of Technology helped develop my interest in the field. I found much of my laboratory training and Academic Projects to be extremely rewarding. I always enjoyed long hours in the labs. It gave me the opportunity to correlate theory to practical phenomena. This in turn gave me a better understanding of the subject and newer lines of thinking. I have further enhanced my theory background by opting for theoretical topics in my Academic Projects. My Minor project titled 'Network Security' was based on JAVA Language. It took me around three months to complete this project and I was able to develop a tool to secure data from unauthorized access using two techniques for securing the data such as Cryptography and Steganography. Thus, main the main purpose of this project was met which was to secure the information at Network Level and from malicious abuse. Further, in my final year I undertook Major project on Kernel tuning and Optimization, Linux RHEL5 oriented. Since, Linux is the most powerful operating system in Computer world both in terms of security and resource management, is the reason why I opted for this subject for my major project. Although the topic was a bit complex one but working on Linux was like blessing in disguise. Exploring fundamentals of Operating system more deeply also got to know the secret recipe of what led to the foundation of such a powerful OS. Though, my minor and major projects were based on different platforms but the main objective was common, 'SECURITY', on a topic I wish strengthen my knowledge further. In addition, the industrial trainings on advanced Java and Red Hat Linux administration helped me acquiring hands on skills on technologies like Servlets, Java Server Pages, Java Server Faces and were useful in exploring beyond the odds within the area of data security.
My keen interest for learning new ideas, when combined with my inner desire to reach a degree of excellence in every piece of work I perform, enabled me to acquire significant knowledge on various aspects of nature and technology, as well as leading me through a successful educational career. While maintaining consistency in academics, I made a conscious effort to take part in diverse activities in college and became the Secretary of the Student Union in the Final Year of under graduation. I enthusiastically participated and lead team in many colleges and inter - college programs like debates, quizzes and presentations. I was also exposed to more of Institution - Industry oriented fairs and exhibitions during my undergraduate studies. At college, I won Inter-College Table Tennis championship for a record two consecutive years. Sports have helped me become a better team player and inculcated qualities of leadership and individualism.
Now, in order to nurture myself as a performer in the real world, I would like to learn the most recent technological advances in the techniques that play a crucial role in the design of large real-world systems. Also, I would like the opportunity to explore how to apply my broad knowledge in computer and system designs to solve challenging problems in the same field. Thus, I believe that the next logical step is to pursue a Master of Science in Network Security from your prestigious institute, University of Utah. Your distinguished faculty, excellent research facilities, pleasant university ambience and a balanced academic program are very much likely to produce excellent results to the fields of my interest. Your university is a convergence of people from varied experience, culture, nationality, religion, race and ideology. I am sure that my exposure to these kinds of diverse influences and stimulating environment would result in the overall development of my personality and help me widen my concept from the narrower confines of nationalism to internationalism. I would therefore be very thankful if I am offered a beneficial association with your esteemed university with full financial support.
