smc 1 / 1 May 27, 2013 #1Hello,I'm in a dilemma of sorts and desperately need some advice. I completed my Masters in Biotechnology in 2011. Since then I have been looking for a research oriented job and have been unable to find one that fits my goals. As the gap stretched, I decided to prepare for GRE and TOEFL ,to become eligible to apply for a Ph.D programme in U.S./Europe. I have given the exams and am planning to apply. I'm worried as to how I can explain the nearing 2 year gap in positive manner!Help!

You can explain by saying you were preparing yourself for a research scientist career by studying and collecting lots of information on your research topic. You needed a break after your masters before venturing into research right away because research is not an easy thing and you have to put in a lot of your time and energy to become successful.
