SOP: applying for Masters in Big Data.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

I Mr. Karthick Pazhanisamy, aspiring Data Scientist would like to take a step in a right direction in my career path from being an Associate Consultant.

My interests in the statistical presentation of reports and data presentation started dating back to my college days. Although my main focus was Electrical Engineering, I was exposed to wide range of subjects in computer Programming. I enjoyed not only the programming but also its applications and managed to attain good score at all the computer science Lab modules. Apart from Curriculum, during leisure time, I used to prepare technical Reports and effective presentations for our Ideas and did several paper presentations at national level technical symposiums. I would say I was not so pleased when I have to wait to view my data, be it university result or Bank transaction report. It's the case with most of the people today. I still remember, once I hit view result, it would take a lot of time to load the semester result during my graduation. At that moment, I understand the importance of effective data handling. I am impressed by the way Google collects data and using for interest - based advertisements. As Mr. W. Edwards Deming says "Without data you're just a person with an opinion." Business data volume doubles almost every year. According to Accenture's study, Big Data Initiatives are important to 93% of companies to improve customer experience. It enables organizations to take full advantage of their asset.

My strong desire to understand Business Intelligence process and requirements of the industry propelled me to accept an employment at HCL Technologies Ltd. My Project was for leading global Investment Bank. I have worked on major components of Data analysis, Data processing and Data manipulation. Delivered Projects of Enterprise Data warehouse module and reporting. I have completed the Oracle Implementation Specialist Certification. I am thankful to my organization which gives an opportunity to work closely with clients and for the recognition of my hard work.

I find out Data Science playing a more and more important role in future marketing and business decision making, which aids me to finalize my future focus of learning. I strongly believe that the Professional Masters in Big Data Computing Science from Simon Fraser University is the best program that helps me to learn necessary tools and concepts especially in Big Data and Analytics. Modules Offered in this Course is impressive and of my interest. I am certain that this course will help me to take a step forward in the journey of my career and achieve my long term goal to become a Data Scientist. I am therefore looking forward to join your University for pursuing my Masters Degree.

Hi Karthick, I think that your essay needs to be shortened. You have so many portions that don't really matter to the reader of the essay because it does not concentrate on the purpose of your interest in applying for the course. What I would like to do is have you revise your essay in such a manner that it tightens the content and concentrates on the development and purpose of the interest that you have. My suggestions for the actual content of your essay is as follows:
