In return for the hardworking in high school, I was the top one among students who entered AN_UNIVERSITY from A_PROVINCE (a little bit larger than Washington State of U.S., with population of 27 million) and ranked 86th place in the College Entrance Examination of A_PROVINCE, China. As a smart and curious freshman three years ago, becoming a computer scientist to lead the cutting-edge and working with brilliant colleagues from all over the world has been a romantic dream of mine. My years in college encouraged me to further my study in a world-class university and earn a Master, even a PhD degree after graduation. Although my exact research goals are yet to be refined, my interests include distributed systems and artificial intelligence.
Though I had no idea about my specific academic interest at the beginning of my college years, terms like ANN, cloud computing and distributed systems has gradually leaded me to a fantastic world of computer science and technologies. I remember it was in the summer of my sophomore year when I built a small FTP server named "MiniFTP" with my friends that I understood how many delicate ideas of computer science lie behind a single simple network protocol. This was the first time I truly enjoyed the sense of achievement after addressing an intellectual challenge. In the following years, I worked in different teams comprised students building various systems from Web applications to Robocup Soccer 2D Simulation team. However, my activities were not always on-campus. I have participated in the 2008 Beijing Olympic as a volunteer, did a good job at the Press Conference room as an assistant manager. All these experiences taught me the key of successful teamwork and how to be a good member as well as a leader of a team, and more importantly, greatly contributed to my emotional maturity.
Having been majoring in software engineering for three years, I now have learned sound common base in computer science such as linear algebra, data structures, computer architecture, operating system, programming languages and basic algorithms. And more importantly, besides concrete knowledge, I have grasped a way to teach my self about a new and unfamiliar topic that I would encounter in the future. In the senior year of my college, with refining my romantic dream into a career goal, I decided to further my study in a world-class university, in the realm of computer science.
When it comes to my purpose of applying for graduate study, I would like to state my career goal and what do I expect from graduate education. Since I believe research works are done in order to improve our lives, to be a researcher in a giant IT corporation's laboratory and leading the cutting edge of science and technology is my career goal. However, to realize this goal, merely finishing four year's undergraduate education and obtaining a bachelor's degree is far from sufficient. My goal requires more extensive knowledge, not only specific and concrete, but also methodological. From the graduate education, I expect academic attentions and instructions of extraordinary faculties as well as communication with brilliant peers. By the commencement of the graduate education, I hope I have already achieved all these conditions that my goal requires.
