STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

I have had a strong interest in Aerospace Engineering ever since when I was a child. When I was seven years old, one of the biggest aeronautical event for Indians was when astronaut Kalpna Chawala traveled to space in space shuttle Columbia in the crew STS 87. I was entirely fascinated by the mystery of our universe and the marvelous technology of sending a spacecraft to such a faraway place. Since then, my dream has been to build a sophisticated spacecraft such as Columbia, Discovery and contribute to the mankind with new discoveries which might change our whole universe.

I pursued my Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics & Communication. But I always wanted to pursue Aerospace in my undergraduate years. Since there was no university in my state that offered Aerospace as a major, therefore I had to opt for studying Electronics & Communication at one of the best college in the state. Even though I was pursuing my undergraduate degree in Electronics & Communication my next thought was that to somehow use my this knowledge, and creatively integrate it with Aerospace Engineering which may help open a whole new dimensions in designing spacecrafts.

My strength is that I have a profound knowledge in the field of Electronics & communication, which will definitely help me in proving myself as a unique and advantageous candidate in the pool of other Aerospace Engineering students. I am continuously trying to learn about new technology & innovation, power efficient designs & models of spacecraft, new fuel technology such as plasma technology which can be used in future projects. I also attended aeronautical design workshop at IIT Delhi which helped me to build a foundation about the basic architecture & design for an spacecraft. This proved to be a great learning experience which further fueled my dream to become an Aerospace Engineer.

Furthermore I am confident that I have used my undergraduate study time at the SVITS wisely. But I think ---- University is more appropriate place for my graduate study for several reasons. Firstly, the Aerospace department of ---- University is an outstanding & advanced department, which is world wide recognized as it has produced many exceptional engineers. Secondly, the Aerospace department of the ---- University has a great research work which will definitely help me to explore my knowledge and enrich my practical experience. Thirdly, there are students from the various countries, it would help me to construct an international human network, which might mean a lot in my future international career.

My short term objective in ---- University is to make an advanced study on Aerospace Engineering and obtain Master of Science Degree in it and then I would like to continue on and acquire a Ph. D. My ultimate career goal is to be an outstanding Aerospace Engineer and apply my knowledge for challenging scientific exploration mission by governmental agencies like NASA, JPL. I would also like to encourage international cooperation in Aerospace Engineering field with my experience in both India & USA.

Of the areas I have explored so far, my interests lie in Propulsion and Combustion, Space Systems, Flight Mechanics, Structural Analysis and Airplane Design. I am particularly thrilled by the research opportunities in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the Arizona State University. With renowned faculty such as Professor Marcus Herrmann and Professor Mike Dunn, I will be a part of an intellectually-stimulating environment at one of the world's premier universities. The research being carried out by Professor Marcus Herrmann for Fluid Mechanics, numerical methods for discontinuous interfaces, premixed and partially premixed combustion and the ongoing research projects in the Wind Laboratory, particularly on Fluid mechanics science and engineering, have fascinated me the most.

Moreover I am also confident that my knowledge and experience in Electronics and Communication Engineering learned in SVITS will contribute your program. The strong graduate program in the Aerospace Engineering department, the preeminent faculty, the extensive research facilities, and the bright student population have all been the key factors that have influenced my decision of pursuing a Master's degree from the Arizona State University. Being a part of the ongoing research work in the department will really stimulate my innate technical and analytical abilities, expose me to the latest technologies, and give me the competitive edge to achieve my goals. Hence, to contribute to the research at the Arizona State University and culminate my own intellectual development, I would like to apply for an M.S. in Aerospace Engineering.

I think this gives a better opening to your SOP than the first line. That sounds too stereotype.

This speaks of your interest in aerospace engineering.

You say this without evidence. It's better you say that through your credentials, achievements etc. Otherwise it does not carry much weight and also may sound as if you are boasting about yourself.

I have made the recommended changes please go through it once:

My strength is that I have a profound knowledge in the field of Electronics & communication, which I tried to implement in my many undergraduate projects such as 'Two Wheeled Self Balancing Robot', 'Ultra Sonic Distance Measurement Meter', 'Motion Sensor For Security Light' & many more, which will definitely help me in proving myself as a unique and advantageous candidate in the pool of other Aerospace Engineering students.

please let me know if it is good enough.
