How to start an admission essay about myself?

I'm impressed with the great advice here. When you look at biographies written about people, you usually see a theme expressed in the title. Conservative talk show host Bill O'Reilly wrote a book he called "Culture Warrior," for example. President Obama wrote about the "audacity" of "hope," so audacity and hope are two themes he uses.

What is your theme?

If you had to sum up your life in a theme, what would it be? That is how to narrow it and make it memorable.

Mr Dragoon first of all, you have to keep writing and never give up.
Second, all of us have faced the same problem at the beginning but keep reading and check different writing styles. In terms of me, I personally start the introduction as this : the first sentence is very general. then the second sentence is less general. so I keep it less general which is specific until I reach to the thesis statement that is very specific and talks about certain topics that I am going to talk later.

Good Luck dear.

You should first Get Personal-tell something that could only be written by You.
Be Concise-do not write so much, make it short and clear.
Eliminate the Negative-Always give your self credits,do not talk about your failures.
Lastly,Before submitting, make sure you Proof read and Get feedback from others about it.

Cool! Nasreen and Manyanda, you give such thoughtful advice.

Arnold, I think the important thing to do is this:
Write 20 sentences! Even f you make errors, it is okay. We will fix the errors, and then some of those sentences will become topic sentence.

Please google this:
"topic sentences"

Also, please write 20 sentences for your essay. They do not have to go in order. Just write a list of sentences to get us started. We'll make you an expert writer.

Well, let's see it! I encourage you to read some classic essays, too. I am familiar with essays in English, but maybe you know other languages as well?

What is an essay? Look at what it is. It is human expression about meaningful concepts. It's like... we all find ourselves here, and we try to find the words to express what we think is happening.

An essay is something that starts with an idea that must be expressed.

'personal information' - What should i write about and how should i start this essay?

There may be persol information you want considered as part of your admissions application. Write an essay describing that informstion. You might include exeptional hardships, challenges, or opportunties that have shaped or impacted your ablilities or academic creentials, personal respolsibilities, exceptional achievements or talents, educational goals, or ways in which you might contribute to an institution commited to creating a diverse learning environment.

Can anybody help me with this essay because honestly i don't have an idea on how to start and what to wite about.
-Thanks! (:

well, you can start with a quote that you believe in, like your principle. something like " there was once my father told me "..." and i never forgot what he said until this day. Keeping that precious advise in my heart, i had traveled far, abiding to this principle. When i was in..."

it's just a suggestion which you need not follow...

then you can talk about incidents where you could display your qualities like leadership, teamwork or resilience etc. or some major projects and competitions that you had took part in and what you have learnt from it.

after talking about yourself, you can move on to your goal in life and "ways in which you might contribute to an institution commited to creating a diverse learning environment"

i'm not used to writing this type of essay so this is just some suggestions that i'm offering...

good luck! ;)

that'll be a nice start but I guess you could improve some of the sentences such as: there was "Oo nce my father told me"..."and ever since, i never forgot what he saiduntil this day .Keeping that preciouswise advisc e in my heart, i had traveled far, abiding to this principle.

Well, of course I might be not good enough but I think that could help. God bless.

I try to always start with a short story or anecdote to really get the reader's attention. Then I slowly give more information about myself so my audience can relate to my story better as they find out more about me. It's always worked for my style of writing and I usually get good feedback.

I'd start with your age, gender, your family background, where you live, what school you go to.

If i were you ,i will write a mantra that you agree with first , it can show what kind of person you are effectively. For instance,'Don't pass up a golden opportunity./Don't pass it up!'can show you are a ambitious and hard-working guy. And then you can write something about you personal qualities like responsible, optimistic, etc. Also mentions something about your experience .

I would begin with something that shows that you are different than the average student. Something that makes you unique to grab the readers attention.

How to start writing an essay about myself?

I was asked to write an essay about myself in 1500 words which is too much.. please give me a hand

Well if its about your background go back and think of big miles stones in you life and write about 150-200 words detailing each milestone.

If its about you current Characteristics think of how you would describe yourself to someone new and for each trait write about 100 to 150 words per characteristic, if you have trouble thinking of characteristics ask a friend to describe you.

Hope this helps!

How can I start a good essay about 'Myself'?

I've seen many kinds of essays entitled 'Myself' but most of them start out with 'My name is...', it was kind of boring. I would like to impress my teacher by starting my essay with a good introduction. Thanks for helping!

Teacher's instructions:
- introduction about myself(yourself) and family and friends
- four paragraphs

Well.... yes, you can certainly start with a more interesting hook. However, your name is so much connected to introducing yourself and that may be the reason why lots of people do that :)

This is how Charles Dickens began his autobiography;
"To begin my life with the beginning of my life I was born on a Friday at twelve o'clock at night. The clock began to strike and I began to cry simultaneously" :D

How should I start of a personal essay? I would like to make it interesting

I need to write a personal essay but I am not sure how to start it. I wouldn't like to start with just My name is .. and my interests are since they don't seem to be very good. Any good ideas? I would love to read your own if possible just to see what it should look like.

Hello!

First of all, you have to think about who this particular personal essay is going to be aimed at. Is it a college or a scholarship application? If that is the case, the best way to write a personal statement, in my opinion, is to focus on what the particular insitution will give you and what you will give the institution and others around you in exchange. Show them where your own passions collide with the school's mission; show them that you are genuinely interested and what in particular sparked your interest.

If the essay, however, is not aimed at an educational institution, would you mind telling us who the audience is?
