A young girl with big dreams... My mother always told me that the sky's the limit and that dreams can always be forged into reality with hard-work and perseverance. It has always been an aspiration of mine to be an entrepreneur or work at a multinational corporate like my father. With his Bachelors in Biomedical Engineering and Master of Business Administration, he was well-equipped to pursue a career path that led him to great achievements. Likewise, my dream can only be achieved if I consistently work hard, stay focused on my goals and, of course, seek a superb education. Every journey we embark on is based on knowledge and education. Therefore, I chose to study engineering at the American University in Cairo.

For the past 97 years, AUC has been Alumni are infamous: from Queen Rania of Jordan and the current Minister of International Cooperation Sahar Nasr to the Permanent Representative of Egypt in the UN office in Geneva, Chairman of ARTOC Group for Investment & Development, Mohamed Shafik Gabr, and former CEO of ARAMCO Abdullah S. Jum'ah. The AUC graduates are making impacts in many fields all over the world. This makes me believe that the AUC equips its students with a top-quality education and practical experience that prepares them to face the challenges of a changing world. This is the type of education I seek, one that will qualify me to compete in the global job market. I also believe that AUC graduates are given a chance like no other to be creative and develop the innovative mindset required for start-ups and becoming an entrepreneur in many fields - especially engineering and business.

The School of Science and Engineering allows its students to be involved in many hands-on learning experiences and find practical solutions to real-life problems; in addition, the unique learning style focuses on developing problem solving skills, critical thinking capabilities and communication skills. I find that this approach allows me to excel in my studies and increase my passion for engineering and business alike. The AUC does not only contribute to the educational aspects of its students' success, it also shapes their personalities and helps them acquire the qualities essential for success like self-confidence, leadership, collaboration, decision-making and integrity. All these qualities can be acquired, not only from the outstanding curriculum, but also from the well-trained, highly-educated and dedicated professors.

In addition, a student's experience at the AUC is very multicultural since the AUC is the most ethnically-diverse university in Egypt. International students from all over the world come the university to receive a world-class education in the heart of the Middle East. As an extrovert who really enjoys meeting new people, this is one of the most important reasons why I chose to study at the AUC. Meeting people from all corners of the world will familiarize me with many cultures and increase my ability to relate to others, something that is crucial to succeed in the business world.

My education at the AUC will allow me to be a highly-educated, well-rounded individual capable to face the challenges of the world. In addition to my ambition and willpower, I am sure I will be able to change the world!

Hi Nouran! I think you have a very good start to your essay. It seems like you have done quite a bit of research and have good knowledge about the school. However, it reads like a generic brochure that advertises the school. Nothing in this essay is about how AUC will benefit you, specifically. They already know how amazing they are; instead, they want to hear about how the education, programming, resources, etc.. will benefit you and help you on the path to achieving your goals.


Elaborate on this. How will this education help you to compete in the global job market? Why do AUC graduates have the chance to be creative more than other graduates, and how will this help you?


Again, why will this help you? How? Don't just talk about the good points of the school, but make it specific to you and your dreams, goals, and plans.
