The statement should be no more than 500 words in length and should give an overview of the applicant's academic and personal experience, describing preparation for and commitment to further study at SCAD, as well as educational and professional goals and aspirations.

This is a decision that I will not regret

A desire to extend my techniques and a passion to realize my lifelong dream motivated me to pursue a major in SCAD's Graphic Design. I've been using drawing as my method to express my emotions through colors, lines, and patterns, making the invisible feelings into some visible artworks since I was little. Creating art, whether it is realistic or abstract, has helped me to broaden my horizons. Eventually, I found out that this sensation is something I want to pursue. However, that is not an easy decision.

I am currently studying in one of the most prestigious high schools in my country, and the emphasis on the college entry examination creates a massive amount of stress. In this demanding academic program, it requires courage to choose the path that most of the students did not take. Determination concludes my whole process of hesitating of my decision, as the passion about art propels me to make up my mind. Therefore, I am the only one who is not in the International Education Program but endeavors to study abroad, which requires me to work harder than anyone else.

After the decision, I have been motivated to elevate all my skills in order to get the access to my dream -SCAD's admission. I keep on practicing my manual and digital design skills, enhancing the techniques to deliver the ideas and inspiration emerging in my head constantly. I am willing to learn what I am lacking of; simultaneously, to work with my strengths in order to attain my original goal.

The reason why SCAD is my top choice is that I concur with the idea of the school, which is everyone, stands a chance to pursue what he/she loves. It doesn't matter what your background is like. We all have a rooted passion for design and that's the main requirement. I will be more than happy to get admitted by a school, which has the same idea with me. And for the first time, I can combine my profession with my education to have a bright future under the right system.

My goal is to develop my skills further and learn more about the numerous media and techniques. I'm looking forward to learning with other international students and different culture, not only to understand them but also utilize it as my inspiration. I endeavor to persevere what I learned in SCAD into my career hoping that I can work for large corporations such as Nike, Adidas etc.

By stepping out my comfort zone, I will refer it as reborn with my enthusiasm. This is a decision that I will not regret even if I failed along the way. Art is not a choice of career; it's a choice of my life. And it will always be my first choice.

I, with much confidence, believe that I qualify all the requirements for admission into your undergraduate program.

Teng, this is a very generic personal statement. It does not capture the reviewers attention nor does it relay any information relevant to your preparation for SCAD studies. You are trying to impress the reviewer with non-existent skills and preparation, which will negate this application and send it into the reject pile. If you are not in an Arts related high school or high school program, then you should at least have some out of school training or experience that will show a solid foundation for the arts. Your essay needs to portray you as a student whose artistic inclinations are only limited by the current high school you are attending. It is important that you have at least community service activities that relate to your love for drawing and other related aspects. You need to relate some sort of formal training such as seminars or art classes, or even being part of impromptu art exhibits, even without formal training, would help to increase the level of interest in the reviewer and preparation for art school on your part. This essay is too theoretical in presentation and lacks the proper preparation aspect to make your application one that could be considered seriously by the reviewer and admissions committee.
