I am applying for KGSP program and I wrote my Self Introduction. I would like you people to have a look at it. Thank you.

Self Introduction

Computer Vision and Image Processing

Photography and computers were my fields of interest since my childhood. Over the time my interest towards these areas grew strong and this gave me the motivation to learn Adobe Photoshop on my own in order to play with images. It was quite fascinating to know, how I could enhance images and give beauty to pictures using computer. Later on I joined COMSATS Institute of IT for bachelor's in Electrical Engineering (Majors in Computer) but the wish to understand and learn about images was still there, which was fulfilled when I had the opportunity to learn the subject Digital Image Processing. During the course work I acquired an in-depth knowledge about images that lead to a research oriented final year project.

During my undergraduate studies the most important and tough part was choosing a "final year project". For this purpose, I frequently consulted my professors, college seniors and some alumni to get a better insight of areas ripe for research in the industry while cautiously keeping an eye on my instinctive pursuits. Finally, the project I chose was oriented towards a research in Digital Image Processing under the title "Real-time Huanglongbing (HLB - Citrus Disease) Detection Using Pattern Recognition Technique and Implementation on Embedded System". The purpose of this project was to design a prototype of CAD system that can detect HLB disease in orange plants. Under the supervision of my mentor, I learned the basic methodology of research and understood the fundamental tools and topics of technical writing, which helped us in submitting a research paper to the "Journal of Real Time Image Processing".

Apart from my final year project I have also worked on semester projects related to Image Processing and Computer Vision which included "Hand gesture detection using python and openCV" and "Image enhancement and manipulation tool using Matlab". Currently I am polishing my skills through e-learning and working as a volunteer with Professor at my previous institute to design a web cluster using raspberry-pi, python and openCV. I also acquired hands on experience as a Graphic Designer by freelancing and I was appointed as the head of Graphic Designing Team, IEEE COMSATS Student Body. My keen interest towards graphics and having hands on experience on tools like Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator attracted me more towards Computer Vision and Image Processing.

Motivated by technological progress and growing concern about the efficient use of Computer Vision techniques, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence which are currently involved in almost every field of our daily life. Its applications range from a webcam used for simple motion detection in a home for security purpose to intelligent robots, which can understand and differentiate between different objects and act accordingly. Other applications include, controlling processes, navigation, organizing information, modeling objects, computer-human interaction and autonomous inspection.

Today, Computer Vision plays a vital role in this era of modern technologies including robot vision, navigation in autonomous vehicles, machine vision in manufacturing industry, medical image processing, inspection of food quality in agriculture field and computer-human interaction. Further, more Computer Vision plays a key role in automation, where objects and actions are being recognized by robots. These are the various reasons that motivated me to opt for a career in Computer Vision.

My motivation towards studying in Korea arise from the fact that Korea is considered as one of the best in the world in information and communication technology. Korea is especially notable for its expertise in IT and Robotics. The academic environment in Korea is highly competitive. Koreans take education- particularly higher education very seriously. Academics in Korea are very competitive. Furthermore, I choose Inha University for my further studies because, it's best known for its research and education in engineering and physics sciences. Finally, I am also attracted by Korean culture and customs, especially Korean K-pop and Korean dramas. It's widely known as "Hallyu" or the "Korean Wave", catching the attention and adulation of fans around the world.

I am eager to learn the knowledge of Computer Vision and Image Processing and do a cutting edge research. Unfortunately we have lack of such opportunities here in my country. That is why it is a best choice for me to enhance my skills through Korean Government Scholarship and give a real shape to my goal.

Abid, what is very obvious from your letter of self introduction is that you did not even bother to read the instructions that came with the application requirements. The KGSP scholarship asks for highly specific information in the self introduction, of which only one part is accurately provided in the statement that you wrote. That's right, what you wrote is a personal statement and not a letter of self introduction. Therefore, you will need to write a totally new essay, a proper self introduction that falls within the required parameters of the KGSP self introduction letter. So what information should be presented within the self introduction? Please refer to the following list of requirements below:

-Your course of life, your view of life, study background, your hopes & wishes, etc
-Your education and work experience, etc., in relation to the KGSP program
-Your motivations for applying for this program
-Reason for study in Korea

As you can see, the main focus of your current essay is only on your academic / education field. Since this is a letter that is to be written on a single page, font size 10, you will need to refocus the content by writing a new, more relevant letter of self introduction. Consider yourself lucky, your reasons for wanting to study in Korea from this essay can be carried over to the new version.

I look forward to reading your revised, and more prompt responsive essay as soon as you can develop it. Just post the new letter in this thread so that I can accurately follow our discussion regarding the changes that you have to make. Thanks.

Hi i am not good at english but i can help you by my best . Remember if you want to introduce yourself for something such scholarship or work please do not star your field first . In my opinion that like you are talking the meaningless thing.Instead of that please say how photography and computer effect your life .First give us the reason and then tell us how it effect on you .Secondly, you use so many academic words which interviewer do not like it because maybe they do not really know about all that stuff you are talking about and then you will fail.Instead use formal word. You have serious problem about you grammar such as about sentence . Your sentence is really long and make someone fell not understand .

Apart from my final year project I have also worked on semester projects related to try to separate it

When you discuss your education, you have to give a summary of your academic accomplishments and recognition which the scholarship committee should take note of. This includes any possible exchange student participation or semester abroad that you may have spent in Korea, academic activities that exposed you to the Korean culture or allowed you interact with Koreans on some level, if you have taken the TOPIK exam previously and passed it, then you should mention such information in your self introduction. Along with those, you should include an explanation as to why you feel that there is a connection between your current profession and the master studies course that you wish to pursue in Korea. Whenever possible, you should try to connect your academic and professional experiences with your desire to study in Korea. If the company that you work for has a direct partnership with Korea, or has Korean investors, such information will also be helpful to your application.

Abid, we need to focus on the first half of the letter that focuses on your academic background. The reviewer is not interested in your 4th grade abilities. What he wants to know is about your formal training in college. It sounds like you attended college right? I believe that you presented it in the second paragraph. Therefore, you need to work on the first part of the essay for now. Focus on developing the backstory of your family that deals with your family dynamic. Introduce your parents and how they supported your education. How did they inspire your ideas for your college degree? Did you gain any words of wisdom from them that have guided you through your life? Basically, you need to provide an insight in the first paragraph that represents, as per the prompt requirements:

-Your course of life, your view of life, study background, your hopes & wishes, etc

After you improve the first paragraph, you also need to pay particular attention to expanding your work experience paragraph. It is severely lacking in information and does not really show the reviewer any actual reason that requires you to consider studying in Korea. In as much as you have student experience in the field, what the reviewer needs from you is the professional application of what you studied in college. That is because the work experience will help to justify the necessity of your intention to study in Korea and also help support your skills as a contender for the grant. Aside from being a good student, you need to be an excellent professional as well.

Thank you for your advise dear Holt. the thing is I am a fresh, graduated at the end of 2016. I dont have any professional experiences regarding my degree. and in Life I always take my decisions on my own. it looks silly but My father used to be at abroad and my mother is uneducated so I was always the one who did this for me. I will try to improve it more by discussing how my family tried to support me financially and what I have learned in my bachelors studies. I think that will help.

Thank you once again.

I just add the first 2 paragraphs which I changed.

In the first paragraph, change the words "self - dependent and hard working person" to " independent and resilient person". That second description is more professional sounding and contains the more appropriate description of your character traits. Remove the reference to your childhood hobbies and your cousin. That is irrelevant to the overall requirements of the essay. Childhood fantasies and abilities do not matter in a masters degree application.

In the second paragraph, you have to mention if your research was published in the magazine plus the issue date and volume number if possible. This is something that you should try to highlight because you lack work experience. Discuss more about this article in relation to the motivation that you developed for studying in Korea if possible.

My worry is that you are not going to be able to impress the reviewer because of the lack of your work experience. Have you done any relevant internships or freelance work since you graduated or during your time as a student? I am trying to help you find some sort of replacement for professional work experience, which is one of the major factors for consideration in this essay. You need to strengthen that very weak point somehow. Try to find something that you can use for it and let me know about it. I'll see if there is something we can do about using it in the essay.

@Holt Thank you so so so much Dear Holt. Your help is really getting me to this.
about the publication so the paper isnt published yet. we have submitted the paper in the journal and its under review. thats why I dont have anything regarding it to use.

I havnt dont any internship until now I got one but its just 2 days ago I get it. 1 best thing I can use is to write my current volunteer work with my professor of previous institute. we are working on a project that consists of a web cluster based on raspberry pi, python and openCV. we are doing that project to make the raspberry pi workable for small computer vision applications. though its the start of the project but still I can write it bout it. what you think should I include that part? though I have already included it in study plan.

Why is that information in your study plan? Are you going to be doing additional research on the subject as a masters degree student? It's too bad that you are using that activity in your study plan. You could have used it in this essay to your greater benefit instead. Once you include a topic in your study plan, you can't repeat that information elsewhere as it will come across as a repetition and further highlight the lack of experience that you have. When are you supposed to submit your application? Is there a chance that you can delay it until you have had about a month or so of internship experience? That will definitely work as a professional experience if you include it in your essay after a reasonable period of time. If not, then you will have to work on highlighting the article submission instead. You can say that you submitted the article and that the research was based on your practical experience in the field. Explain the topic of the paper that you submitted. I'll help you make it sound professional experience if you have a hard time doing that. You have to write the information in the letter first though.

I think you have

@aliabid
sorry for the earlier comment. It was posted accidentally before I complete it. Actually I was going to tell that your revised essay is better than the first one. but sorry to say that I find some similarities with mine.

I am interested in learning Korean as another language which is also a plus point for engineering major student. Unfortunately, my bachelor's degree program did not have any module for language learning which I think as a disadvantage for us. Therefore, I want to learn Korean language while experiencing Korean culture because as I think, a different language is a different vision of life.

especially I think you have completely copied and pasted above sentences from my essay. I hope you will edit and try to write out with your own words what is inside your heart. it is good to get a little idea by reading others.but don't just copy and paste others. and yes good luck with your application.

@Holt .. I am just very very thankful to you for putting your time in me. I have improved several parts. the research paper is linked to my project which I have already explained and cant be explained further so I left it as it is. I have cover up my professional work part with my volunteer work. I hope it will work now.

P.S: I cant wait for a month because the deadline is 10th march and I have to submit my documents as soon as possible. I will really appreciate if you could please check it and give it a professional look. and Can I know your name please. I really want to thank you for everything.

I was born and raised in a small town of district Peshawar, Pakistan by a middle class family. My family economic conditions made me a person to learn from online tutors rather than taking coaching classes. This helped me in a positive way, I became an independent and resilient person. My family always supported my decisions and encouraged me to believe in myself. Even though we had financial problems, my family never let it affect my studies. My deep interests in computer made me wish to be a computer engineer.

Later on I joined COMSATS Institute of IT for bachelors in Electrical Engineering (Majors in Computer). The course work involved in different areas of engineering. That included electronics, programming languages, computer hardware and image processing. Looking into my expertise and skills I learned, I choose to work in the area of Image Processing. I acquired an in-depth knowledge about images that lead to a research oriented final year project. The project I chose was oriented towards a research in Image Processing and Pattern Recognition under the title "Real-time Huanglongbing (HLB - Citrus Disease) Detection Using Pattern Recognition Technique and Implementation on Embedded System".

Apart from studies I also served as a graphic designing team head in IEEE COMSATS Student Body Wah Campus. I managed to take care of the media and advertisements used for different seminars and gatherings. I also did my part as a mentor of graphic designer team and taught them different graphic tools and skills. Currently I am polishing my skills through e-learning and reading different papers of CVPR 2011-2016 related to computer vision. I am also working as a volunteer with a professor at my previous institute to design a web cluster to run small application of computer vision. For this purpose I am learning Python and openCV programing languages. The project is at its initial stages and is based on raspberry pi. Looking into my hard work and passion towards Computer Vision, my department decided to give me a place as an internee.

My motivation towards KGSP program arise from the fact that Korea is considered as one of the best in the world in information and communication technology. Korea is especially notable for its expertise in IT and Robotics. The academic environment in Korea is highly competitive. Koreans take education- particularly higher education very seriously. Furthermore, I choose Inha University for my further studies because, it's best known for its research and education in engineering and physics sciences. Finally, looking in to the fact that South Korea is the center of information and communication technology and robotics in Asia. I am interested in learning Korean as another language which is also a plus point for engineering major student. Unfortunately, in my bachelors we did not get a chance to learn any language. Therefore, I want to learn Korean language while exploring Korean culture. I believe a different language is a different form of life.

There are several reasons I want to study in Korea. Firstly, I am inspired by the research work carried out in Korea. Especially the research carried out in the field of engineering and information technology. I have plans for myself to become a research engineer in a research and development company. Looking in to my goal, I believe Korea is the best place for me to study and make a career in research. Secondly, studying in Korea will open up a wide range of employment opportunities for me. Graduates from Korean universities are highly sought after by employers all over the world. Finally, I am also attracted by Korean culture and customs, especially Korean K-pop and Korean dramas. It's widely known as "Hallyu" or the "Korean Wave", catching the attention and adulation of fans around the world. I want to experience their traditions, lifestyle and norms. Therefore, I am so eager to study in South Korea and I am highly convinced that this program will help me to satisfy my requirements.

No need to thank me. I am always here to help the students find their way. Applying for KGSP cannot be easy for anybody. More so if you do it alone. I am just glad that I can be of assistance to you in this instance. Now, about this essay.

As I recall, you told me that you mentioned the research paper in the study plan right? Since you mentioned this paper in another essay, you should remove all reference to that in this particular essay. Mostly because of the redundancy that is created, which shows the weakness of your application to the reviewer. A truly qualified applicant does not repeat information about himself in his essays because he has more than enough professional experience to convince the reviewer of his skills in the field.

The removal of the reference to the paper that you wrote will be enough to create a final form for this self introduction. Due to you not having enough professional skills to present to the reviewer, it would be in your best interest to keep this essay short and focused on as many aspects of the essay as you can, that might make him overlook the lack of professional experience. I am not saying he won't see it, just that it won't be as noticeable if you do not try to say too much about your academic background in the self introduction.

Do as I instruct and you can consider the essay usable already. There is nothing more we can do at this point. You have done everything possible to polish this letter. It's time to move on to the next essay for your application.

Don't forget that we have a one essay per thread policy. That means that this current thread is meant to discuss only the self introduction letter. The study plan should be presented in a different thread because that is a new essay and a new topic. So, as per the rules, it no longer belongs in this thread. More importantly, please don't forget to help the other students with useful advice before you post your new essay in a separate thread. The others are also looking forward to getting your opinions and advice about how to improve their own work. So please, do your part in helping others so that we can continue to have a vibrant community of writing learners here. I will definitely be waiting to read your study plan essay. It sounds like it is going to be an interesting read.
