Motivation letter for master in AI

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am XX, a 3rd year graduate student of YY University of Applied Mathematics. I am writing to apply for Master program in Artificial Intelligence at CC University starting in autumn 2018.

I started prepping for graduate schools long before and CC University was at the top of my short list. There are rarely top universities offering a program about AI in a master's degree with valuable scholarly resources and well-known reputation of the highly qualified education. More importantly, I fully agree with the idea that the tracks are oriented towards the practical application of AI technology in a broad, problem-oriented setting. I believe that your university could offer me a superb study environment and a promising career future. Considering my plan to become a consultant in IT after graduation, CC University is best suited, not to mention that romantic and multicultural Amsterdam is my dream city.

The undergraduate and graduate curriculum in Applied Mathematics at School of Mathematical Science introduces me to a wide variety of science and engineering subjects. Various courses provided me with a strong footing in the theoretical concept of Mathematics. In addition, I have taken some lessons about programming such as C, Database Technology and Data Structures as optional courses to gain profound knowledge in the field of Computer Science. With my consistent efforts and keen interest, I have a good GPA in the last two years of undergraduate period and good grades in graduate courses.

Having read many books and papers, completed many projects and presented reports during graduate school, I have accumulated abundant experience for future research. My major is Computer Graphics and my research area is Mesh Reconstruction and Subdivision. These work need not only strong background in mathematics, but also substantial programming effort. Together with my supervisor and my fellows, I spent numerous hours in the laboratory studying papers, experimenting with new ideas and evaluating results. Through one year of hardworking, I have improved existing reconstruction method by using TT method, which uses the normal of vertices to rebuild the original model, and I prove the new method can yield a better result. These experiences solidly equip me for my graduate study.

My interest in artificial intelligence began one year ago, when I got to know it from some lectures given by professors in Institute of Artificial Intelligence in my university. I am interested in some topics especially Computer Vision, which is closely connect to what I have done. Fascinated by the relevant projects such as Face Detection and Face Recognition, I have picked up some theoretical foundations about this field. I wish to delve deeper into this subjects to be able to carry out independent research and analysis. Upon graduation, I plan to seek employment in IT and become a consultant in high tech fields, where I will perform numerical analysis or image processing in regards to economic systems or industrial areas. A topmost priority would be fulfilling my career goals. From where I stand, working is another way of learning. I will persist and perhaps later become an administrator or establish my own enterprise.

I have strong leadership with great team spirit and problem solving ability. As a class president and the part-time instructor in Math department, I have taken the initiative to organize many extra-curriculum activities or help some students to overcome their difficulties. I would also like to bring to your attention that I completed a summer school in Paris last summer, so I have experience in studying abroad and acquainting with people from different countries and cultures. This experience helped to boost my individual potential and encouraged me to pursue my Master degree studies abroad.

I have read carefully the curriculum and the course requirements and I believe that it perfectly matches my research interests and profile. Thus, the programmer of CC University and place where it is situated are perfect for my professional and personal desires.

With my strong intense enthusiasm and academic background, I am confident that I am qualified and able to perform well in this program. Zhenyu, this is too extensive for a motivation letter. It contains too much irrelevant and unnecessary information. It would be best for you to revise the letter for content. You do not really need to go this in-depth in your letter because the motivation letter is only supposed to present the motivation behind your desire for higher academic learning so soon after your undergraduate studies. There are parts of this letter that you can use. I suggest using the following paragraphs for the revision: The introduction paragraph (paragraph 1),5, 2,7,8 in that order. These paragraphs will comprise the revised content of your paragraph that you should work on enhancing in terms of motivational content in order to create a more relevant motivational letter. You need to feed the idea that you are motivated by something such as changing a part of this field, enhancing something related to it, or that you have an idea for something that will be a notable breakthrough in the area. The motivational letter should be the perfect introduction to your statement of purpose, which is why it should be a usable summary in 5 paragraphs only. It is only a cover letter, not an essay.
