Writing Feedback / SHOULD PARENTS BE ABLE TO DISCIPLINE-ARGUEMENTATIVE essay [NEW]

It is my opinion that spanking as a form of discipline is acceptable. It is a parent's
responsibility to determine the level of punishment required to include spanking in order
to provide the appropriate level of discipline. There have been many discussions and
opinions concerning parental rights regarding spanking a child. The media will have you
believe that to be a good parent, you must rely on "Parental Handbooks or the latest talk
show or theory in order to raise your children It should be a combination of training, along with natural instinct for people that want to become good parents to rely on those instincts to know and understand what is good and appropriate for their child rather than society's opinions and perceptions.

In a free society, we are not told how many and when we should have children or what they should or should not be taught in the home. Freedom of choice requires us to accept the full responsibility of providing food, shelter, and comfort to the families that we chose to have. Parental Handbooks, while can provide useful information, cannot take the place of parental instinct and responsibility in determining what is best for an individual child or in a particular situation.

If we are listening to the latest expert in the media, they are selling a theory based on whatever product they are marketing or sponsoring. They cannot replace your natural instinct to know what is appropriate for your child.

We live in a world of laws, rules and expected levels of social behavior. That world begins in our homes and where the first rules of behavior is taught to us by our parents. Acceptance of parental responsibility includes the right to determine the appropriate level and age for discipline that a parent has the legal and moral obligation to control.

Parents are the first role models and authority figures that children will have. It is where we are taught discipline, responsibility and consequence for inappropriate actions. Webster's dictionary states that the word "discipline" means "behavior in accord with rules of conduct; behavior and order maintained by training and control" a definition that I find to be an appropriate statement that supports my opinion of parental responsibility for disciplining their children.
