I'm hoping that this letter falls into the death of immediate family and/ personal hardship category.
Prompt: Statement describing, in detail, the reason(s) for not meeting the renewal eligibility requirements
Is my statement too wordy and is it persuasive or should i add how i cant afford attending college without this scholarship

I am writing this letter of appeal in hopes that you will reconsider your decision to not renew my scholarship for the fall 2014-Spring 2015 semester. The decision to not renew my scholarship was based on the fact that I failed to meet the minimum academic GPA of 3.0; my cumulative GPA for the Fall 2013/Spring 2014 academic year was a 2.78. I fully acknowledge that the loss of my scholarship was entirely my fault, and regardless of your response to this letter, I thank the committee for granting me the scholarship in the first place, as well as taking the time to read this letter.

I hope that the following information will help you to understand my situation. During this school year, I was faced with a host of stress-inducing dilemmas that took a toll on me and ultimately, my grades. In September 2014, my grandmother passed away. This news was heartbreaking for myself and my family. My grandmother helped to raise me for most of my childhood, she was also the last close relative of my mother. It was very hard dealing with her death since I have never had any close family members pass away and I had few people around me to help me cope. Because of this death, both of my parents had to travel to Ghana, Africa to arrange her funeral. This was financially difficult since my parent had to finance flight tickets and funeral preparations without any assistance and had to stop work. We were in no way prepared for this, especially since my sister was also giving birth that month and I was just starting college.

Needless to say, my personal life was a major distraction to my already challenging course load which consisted of biology, chemistry and mathematics. Aside from coping with my grandmother's death and assisting in planning funeral arrangements, my sister was coping with a difficult pregnancy. I had travel back home sometimes to care for her and stay with her for the entire time that she was in the hospital giving birth. Unfortunately, I could not focus on my school work as much as I should have which led to my GPA being under the minimum requirements.

Being awarded this scholarship was a privilege and the greatest opportunity that has even happen to myself and my family. If granted my scholarship again, I can assure the committee, that I will not be in the same situation ever again. I will respect and honor the requirements of the experiment and I can guarantee that I will raise my GPA. This is the last time my GPA will ever be this low. This summer, I plan to learn how to cope with stress better by either counseling or relaxation techniques. I have opted for living in a single so that I can focus on myself and concentrate on my school work. I also have plans to meet with each of my professors at the beginning of the semester to establish a better relationship with them and learning environment.

I have been humbled greatly by this experience. I do understand that these circumstances should not have been an excuse to let my graded slip, but I hope that you can understand my situation.
