I am being asked to write a letter of motivation explaining why i deserve a scholarship. I will appreciate your assistance.

I wish to apply for the King arthur scholarship. I believe that my excellent academic record and service work make me a good candidate for a scholarship. Throughout high school I maintained a high level of academic achievements. I graduated from Olivet height school, Oyo, Nigeria in 2005 during which I served as the representative of my class to the school administrative and despite that, I was among the first three of a class of fourty eight. My brilliant results in biology and chemistry motivated my application for a bachelor degree in biochemistry at the University of Ilorin Nigeria. University of Ilorin is ranked number one of over hundred universities in Nigeria.

I was one of the one hundred and eighty students admitted into the fulltime degree of the department of biochemistry in 2006 from a total of over a two thousands applicants. At my second year in the university I organized voluntary tutorial classes where I tutored courses in mathematics, physics, chemistry and biochemistry for lower level students in science based departments and in 2009 I was given an award of excellence as the student of the year by the National Association of Biochemistry student, University of Ilorin chapter. Despite this tasking programme, I maintained high academic result. Also in 2009 I received University of Ilorin scholarship award as the best student in the department of biochemistry with a worth of 94,000 Naira (US $700). These accomplishments lead me to believe that in the future I will continue to perform at a higher level in the academics.

In addition, I led a team of the best four students of the department of biochemistry to University of Cape coast, cape coast, Ghana on a bilateral exchange between the University of Ilorin, Nigeria and University of Cape coast, Ghana. At Cape coast, I was trained as a medical laboratory scientist on deployment by the University of Cape coast, first to metropolitan hospital where I was trained for four weeks then to central regional hospital where I completed my training for another four weeks both in Cape coast, Ghana. My interest in biomedical research grows during my stay at the University of Cape coast when we were allowed to participate in then ongoing research at the laboratory of Dr. Asamoh, the head of the Department of Biochemistry, University of Cape coast. He was investigating whether dietary vitamin C from mother could be acquired through breast milk by her child.

In addition to school related activities, I was also the representative of my class at the department of biochemistry, university of Ilorin and in 2010, I was chosen as a student senator to represent the interest of student in my department at the faculty. I graduated from the University in 2010 and received a prize as the best graduating student in the department of biochemistry and also award of University scholar.

Furthermore, since graduation I have been involved in varieties of community development services. I was a member of environmental community development group during my National youth service scheme where I later became the leader of the group. The objective of this group is to sensitize Nigerians toward a healthy living. During my regime as the leader of the group, we organized a successful rally to sensitize people of Okada town, Edo state, Nigeria against deforestation and pollution. This contributes to my acquisition of certificate of service by the National Youth Service Corps.

I worked as Graduate assistant at the Department of Biochemistry, faculty of basic medical sciences, Igbinedion University, Okada, Nigeria between November, 2010 and September, 2011 where I received 27,000 naira (US $180) per month. As a graduate assistant in the university, I handled tutorial classes and introduce practical classes to the student in faculty of basic medical sciences (Biochemistry, physiology and basic medicine). I also participated in a number of researches undergone in the department of biochemistry of the institution. This further grew my interest in research and since then, I have co-author several scientific literatures, published in international journals including British Journal of Pharmacology and Toxicology and Pakistan Journal of Nutrition, and I have also participated in numbers of researches in the field of biochemistry, most especially toxicology, phytomedicine and nutritional biochemistry. I left Igbinedion University because of my strong desire to learn new things and at present, I am working voluntarily in the laboratory of Dr. R.O. Arise of the department of biochemistry, University of Ilorin where I am learning new research methodology in enzymology.

Additionally, I enjoy playing football, discussing and reasoning biochemistry with colleagues, and surfing the web. These as hobbies make me to develop good rapport with colleagues in the same and different field. During my study at--------------------- I shall develop strong interpersonal, writting and oral communication skills, as a team work between scientist, chemist and other specialist in pharmaceutical research and medical research.

My goal is to become a professor of biochemistry so that together with the researchers of the world can solve some of the world challenges and can have the opportunity to return the favor many professors bestowed on me and teach at a college level. The standards of living of an average Nigerian being below the poverty line with inability to assess standard health care as well as their exposure to several toxicants from their day to day engagement intrigued me and have been most of the underlying motivation for many of my research goals. Furtherance to my research interest, I am working towards a dissertation on optimization conditions for lysine production in tomato using Corynebacterium glutamicum and hope to further this dissertation by investigating the protective role of the fermentation product against oxidative stress. Etiology of most ailments have been associated with oxidative stress including, cancer, anaemia, inflammation, schizoprenia and several others associated with tissue dysfunction. The objective of this study is thus to construct a nutritional therapy with a high antioxidant property and of wide usage. This study will further be targeted on individual disease to evaluate the presence of synergism between the product and the molecular components of the cells under oxidative stress condition. I would like to continue to conduct research on many open challenges in nutritional biochemistry and ethnomedicine.

I am committed to this goal as is evident by my record of academic accomplishments and community service. I am convinced that all these factors make me a good candidate for this scholarship.

I would like to thank you in advance for considering my application.

If I were you, I would try to really catch your readers eye. You need a good hook at the beginning of the essay to keep people reading besides blantly stating why you deserve the scholarship. Perhaps, you can tell a story to illustrate why you deserve it? Stories are always interesting and keep the readers reading. But as far as the content of the essay, it's good!

Good luck!

you started many sentences with "I." you may want to consider varying the sentences a bit :D
