Instructions: "A motivation letter (also called statement of purpose, personal essay, or cover letter) is a brief essay in which you explain what you hope to achieve, what qualifies you as a top candidate for admission, why you selected that specific programme(s), why you have chosen the University of Padua among other universities.
The motivation letter is an extremely important part of your application because it provides the Academic Committee with a description of your personality, of how you plan to contribute to and benefit from the degree programme(s) you are applying for."

Please review my draft, feedback is appreciated:

Dear Members of the Admissions Committee,

I am writing to express my sincere interest in pursuing the University of Padova's Master's in Human Rights and Multi-level Governance. My commitment to advancing human rights is shaped by my lived and professional experiences navigating governance systems from opposing positions, where I have witnessed exploitation. Belonging to XXXX marginalized XXX community, I was forcibly displaced during the civil war and sought asylum in XXXX. These early experiences fostered my commitment to human security, prompting my career in law enforcement. Presently, I serve as an Enforcement Case Officer with the XXXX Agency, where I regularly engage with migrants and refugees whose pursuit of security and prosperity often exposes them to the very exploitation I had escaped. In witnessing the exploitation of the human rights of marginalized groups, I am drawn to the Master's in Human Rights and Multi-level Governance to cultivate international and intersectional perspectives on human rights, while examining the role of governance across transnational and transcultural contexts in protecting those marginalized.

My academic background, leadership initiatives, and research experience reflect my self-directed approach and readiness to engage in this programme as a qualified candidate. As the first woman in my family to attend university, I completed an Honours Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology at XXXX. During my studies, I founded XXX Justice Advocates to advance justice-focused education and charitable initiatives supporting marginalized communities. Alongside this work, I volunteered with the XXX Women's Centre and participated in human rights advocacy groups such as XXX and XXX. Collectively, these experiences deepened my intersectional awareness of social vulnerabilities, preparing me to contribute to class discussions with critical analysis of political and socioeconomic phenomena. My research interests center on human security and transnational exploitation. My bachelor's dissertation, XXXXX (2023), examined transnational cyber exploitation using qualitative research and a systematic literature review to examine vulnerability, policy gaps, and prevention strategies. After presenting this research at the XXX Research Excellence Days Conference in April 2023, I gained confidence in my presenting & researching skills, as the study became recognized by the XXXX Institute in XXX (2023) and in XXXXXX (2024), by Finland's POLIISI. I intend to continue my commitment to advancing research with knowledge in research design, academic writing, presentation, and qualitative research methods. In my role as a XXX officer, I apply a human-centred approach informed by my asylum experience, combining intelligence analysis with empathy when assessing risk among conflict-affected migrants. I regularly encounter cases involving trafficking, smuggling, and labour exploitation, with women and children most frequently impacted. These experiences demand critical thinking, cultural awareness, and evidence-based decision-making skills, which I am prepared to bring to the programme's discussions on comparative issues, challenging cultural assumptions and to my thesis research.

I am drawn to the University of Padova and its Master's in Human Rights and Multi-level Governance, as its opportunities uniquely suit my academic, research, and personal aspirations. The Human Rights Centre's engagement with international institutions through the Padova Model Universal Periodic Review and the Save the Children Chair offers valuable exposure where I intend to collaborate, discuss, and learn about global governance and children's involvement in marginalization and transnational exploitation. I am eager to solidify my research's focus by learning from Dr. Paola Degani, whose expertise in gender, migration, and human rights supports my proposed thesis on how exploitation plays a role in the gaps of international protection frameworks for migrant and refugee women and their children. In addition, courses such as Refugee Human Rights Protection, Women's Human Rights, Children's Rights, and Work, Migration and Globalization, further reinforce my research trajectory. After completing this programme, I intend to become a XXX Human Rights Officer specializing in organized crime and migrant exploitation, with long-term goals of contributing to UNHCR, OHCHR, and UN Women. I am confident that the University of Padova will support both my academic development and personal growth, including deeper cultural immersion through the Italian language, which I have been studying independently since I visited Italy in September 2025. I sincerely hope to join this programme, contribute to its academic community, and experience life in the beautiful city of Padova.

The way that you used AI to polish this letter will be easily noticed by the reviewer. While you strengthened the AI writing by providing your personal experiences and information to the app, the way that the transition is highly mechanical and follows the AI trained format will be obvious to the reviewer. This type of writing could be detrimental to your application because your personality and human thoughts, your heart, disappeared in the academically and lexically proper essay. It is strong once a person who is not attuned to AI writing reads it, but it would be weak in the eyes of a reviewer trained to spot AI writing . I would try to revise this essay using my own writing skills to win this admission. You do not have to be grammatically perfect. Rather, your heart and human desire to join the program to improve the situation should shine through.
