My passion for History started when I was a child, driven by a curiosity to understand how societies evolve and the forces that shape them. I was curious to know how, who, and why my environment and the societies around me became the way they were then. This curiosity drove me to pursue a Bachelor's degree in History and International Studies at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. During the course of my studies, my interest in global politics, international law, foreign policies, and bilateral trade grew increasingly, especially with the introduction of courses such as International Politics, International Systems, Philosophy of History and International Studies, and Contemporary History of the Middle East. This interest followed me throughout my journey in History and International Studies and became one of the major reasons why I am seeking deeper knowledge in International relations at the University of Palermo.
During my undergraduate studies. I conducted a historical research on the economic impact of Oja-Oba (the King's Market), the oldest market in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. Applying my knowledge in historical methodology, I collected data using both primary and secondary sources. I then analyzed and interpreted my data. which helped me introduce more structure, detail, and clarity while also identifying and filling gaps in the existing related projects. In addition, my analytical and interpretative skills were further strengthened during my visit to the Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove and the Ooni of Ife Palace in Osun State, where I was required to write a detailed report about my experiences and lessons with some evidences of pictures. Those experiences enhanced my abilities as a historical analyst and also improved my problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills. I am highly motivated and eager that this will contribute to my learning experience in the classroom. However, they also revealed a gap I am determined to fill: a deeper understanding of global politics, international trade and relations, international security, international law, and relations between states.
This is why I am particularly drawn to the University of Palermo, as its multidisciplinary approach to research aligns closely with my academic and career path. I am also encouraged by the department's commitment to academic quality and its responsiveness to students' needs, which reflects a supportive learning environment that prioritizes student development. In addition, the emphasis on seminars and workshops that translate academic knowledge into practical skills is particularly important to me, as it bridges the gap between theory and real-world application.
My career ambition is to become an International Policy Analyst, conducting research on global political, economic, and environmental trends to provide informed recommendations that support effective foreign affairs and environmental policymaking for governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and international institutions. i am especially impressed by the opportunities the department offers students to engage with professionals in the field. I believe these interactions will provide valuable practical insights and help me develop the professional skills and experience necessary to excel in my chosen career. Thank you for considering my application . I look forward to the opportunity to join this prestigious department at the University of Palermo.
