Motivation Letter (University of Luxembourg)

You can't build a great building on a weak foundation. It would be best if you had a strong superstructure (Gordon B. Hinckley). I strongly agree with him. A nation's development is almost entirely built on the foundation of engineering. Engineering has added a bunch to our life in this age. The roads, the bridge, the hospital, the school, to mention a few, have made it possible for men to live conveniently. Today's no major project is started without an extensive study of the objective and preliminary studies of possible plans leading to a recommended scheme, perhaps with alternatives. Feasibility studies must consider both economic and engineering problems.

Engineers who can and will transform the world are desperately needed in society. Engineering has always piqued my interest, primarily because it emphasizes problem solving and integrates two of my favorite disciplines, mathematics, and science. I decided to follow the footpath of Sustainable Product Creation, since I have a strong interest in chemistry, math and physics. But it can also lead to a wide range of careers, from working in well-established industries like oil and gas to pioneering the development of lucrative new materials and processes like nanotechnology, fuel cells, and biomedical engineering. My passion to reducing the effect of substances on the earth, from conception to development to prototype to commercialization, recycling, and disposal made me want to focus on sustainable product creation. The more I think about it, the more I want to get involved in it.

My keen desire to further my education in this field was born out of my desire to contribute to the development in my country and aim to improve its standard to that of the global stands. My love for engineering started in my teenage days. My desire to pursue my Master of Science in Engineering focusing on sustainable product creation stems from the gradual accumulation of theories and practical applications of the concepts I have observed during my working experience.

As an undergraduate in industrial chemistry from the prestigious University of Ilorin, I gained theoretical exposure to different areas like; Industrial management, environmental chemistry, polymer technology, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry among others. In the third year of my undergraduate, I received in-depth practical knowledge during the three-month industrial training. I worked at Nascon Allied industries PLC; where I conducted routine and non-routine analyses of in-process materials, raw materials environmental samples, finished goods, or stability samples. In addition, interpreted test results, compare them to established specifications and control limits, and make recommendations on appropriateness of data for release. Currently, I work as a Revenue protection and enforcement officer at the Ikeja Electric, which is the largest electricity distribution company in the county. Where I learnt the intricacies in the generation, transmission and transmission of power across all 6 geopolitical zones of the country. I delivered an exceptional level of service to each customer by listening to concerns and answering questions, implemented marketing strategies which resulted in over 12% growth of customer base and coordinated and monitored field activities of assigned teams. To improve myself I had training in HSE, Team building and management.

University of Luxembourg was an easy choice to make for a post graduate degree. It is known to have invested a great deal in technology and this is evident is the well-equipped visualization lab. As an international student I look forward to rubbing minds with other students form different culture. One of my major strengths, is effective communications and how to build sustainable relationships. Being a good team player (I partake in sports, volleyball, and tennis), it allows me to interact with people which I believe will be an added advantage in cases where we need to work and present as a team. If given the opportunity to study at your prestigious institution, it will be a steppingstone to achieving a lifelong dream of impacting positively to my community and my country. I look forward to a favorable decision on my application.

.... I strongly agree with him.

It is always easiest to open with words of wisdom from someone else. It helps you tell the reader something that you cannot put into words on your own. Sadly, the reviewers do not appreciate any application essay or motivation letter that does not contain the original thoughts of the applicant in any given part of the statement. The reviewers give more weight to what you think and what you say, regardless of its imperfection. Removing this citation and your agreement to it will not harm your paper. Deleting it makes the letter stronger as it focuses immediately on your thoughts and observations which led to your motivation to study this course.

Reverse the positions of paragraphs 2 and 3. The third paragraph carries more of a convincing and related motivational representation than the current 2nd paragraph. In fact, the second paragraph can be removed from the presentation without really affecting the motivational statement.
