Hello, I have an assignment which is to right an essay to compare and contrast two poems or songs focusing on sound and rhythm. Do you have any suggestions that may help start this assignment ?

You could begin by comparing/contrasting two works by the same author, two pieces from the same writing style, or two pieces with the same theme, subject, or topic. As with songs; you can choose two by the same singer/band, the same genre, or different genres for that matter. The choices are pretty much endless here, so do something you enjoy!

Compare and contrast poems in essays, need ideas
Hi, so i have to compare and contrast two poems for an essay I'm am writing. I have never written an essay like this and poems are not my strong suit , i was hoping for some ideas on how to start and what it should sorta look like.

I'm not really sure about the format that you should be following for such an assignment, but I could suggest a few things that could help you with the project:
1. Compare the theme used by the poets: Descriptive? Emotional? Panegyric?
2. Contrast the characters: Outgoing? Pleasant? Introvert?
3. Distinguish between the styles used: Rhyme Schemes, patterns followed, etc.
4. Also, try to focus a little on the conditions in which the poem was written by the poet so as to portray its effects on the poem. (Like times of war -- its effects on the poem. eg: In the poem Survivors by Siegfried Sassoon / poverty, etc.)
