As the world progresses scientifically and technologically so does the terrorism within it. Despite the strides that have already been made in the biodefense industry, more work is needed, which means more money, more employees, and more facilities to complete the research and development in. The Biodefense field is necessary and in need of expansion to protect people globally, nationally, and locally from threats.

The Biodefense Field protects the world from the spread of dangerous disease through travel. Recommended vaccinations list provided for many different scenarios. Travel to foreign countries is a big risk for disease so lists are made of vaccines that have been developed to prevent the majority of them. Along with these things, the researchers are also working on curing diseases that are as of yet incurable. A cure for the most common strain of Anthrax has been found and they are continuously developing new ones to counter act any future mutations that could come from the original. Viruses now have many anti-viral cures and treatments with many more under development.

Nationally, Bio-defenders work against radiological and nuclear threats. Developing treatment for those exposed to a radiological weapon. NIAID (National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease), a pharmaceutical company working in the biodefense field, develops counter measures for radiological and nuclear diseases. Researchers are also developing cures for radiological and nuclear diseases such as cancer . Along with cures the biodefense industry has also been providing devices that can be used to detect any present biological agents for years and continues to improve on them.

People are protected locally by the existence and expansion of the Biodefense field through the prevention of and/or treatment of victims in attacks. Many labs are to be set up near towns and cities, which would allow for nearly immediate relief in case of an out brake. When an outbreak occurs they begin making or working on a cure for the disease to stop it. Distributing emergency medical supplies and vaccines in case of an emergency.

More oversight is required to allow the safe growth of the industry. There is no current agency in charge of regulation of Biodefense labs. In order to move forward safely a regulating agency will need to be developed to oversee the growing industry. Few regulations are in place for current labs, let alone future ones. More regulations will also need to be put into place to protect citizens and researchers alike from accidents or mistakes that could be made within the labs.
