I am preparing SoP in applying for a master program in EU country. Can anyone kindly help me in tailoring my SoP. I appreciate your support a lot!

In The Art of Living, the Roman philosopher Epictetus asked, "Who exactly do you want to be?". This question echoed within me for years, and my answer gradually became clear through my academic and professional experiences: I want to be one of the global changemakers working to build a safe and sustainable world for all.

Brought up from adversity in a developing country, I have always been motivated to seek ways to foster development there. This motivation has been essential in shaping my academic and professional interests. As a resident, I have witnessed the development of my country and hometown over the years, along with the associated challenges. In particular, my hometown, xxx, has experienced significant growth driven by a substantial influx of foreign direct investment in recent years. While this economic progress has led to improvements in the living standards of residents through increased wages and job creation, it has also resulted in environmental degradation. This stark contrast is also the point at which I realized the bitter costs of such development, often referred to as "externalities," in a typical developing country. I then understood that the concept of "development" should, however, transcend beyond the focus on poverty elimination alone to include preservation of the environment and promotion of sustainable practices.

Driven by this concern, after graduation, I contributed as an intern to an international development cooperation organization supporting sustainable forestry and nature-based solutions. There, I furthered my understanding of the roles of intergovernmental organizations in fostering a more comprehensive and balanced approach to development. Seeking to approach these issues from multiple perspectives, I transitioned into the climate consulting industry as a junior expert. This role allowed me to engage with various projects involving multilateral stakeholders, such as government entities, development partners, and private sector actors. Working on these projects expanded my knowledge of policy development, climate resilience strategies, and sustainable investment frameworks. Additionally, I contributed to projects that focused on integrating climate action into broader development agendas, emphasizing the importance of cross-sector collaboration for impactful change. Through this journey, I honed my expertise in sustainable development and climate adaptation and gained a more holistic view of how diverse sectors can align to address global challenges effectively.

Reflecting on my bachelor's course, I also saw how my research interests and motivation were nurtured. I found immense interest in researching complex environmental issues, primarily through my successful graduation thesis on acid rain. I examined the economic activities, including the rapid growth of industries, urbanization, and the construction sector, which significantly contribute to sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions - the primary culprits behind acid rain. Besides quantitative data, I employed qualitative methods to explore how policy gaps, economic pressures, and industrial growth in developing areas exacerbated the issue. As a result, my thesis became the first to receive the highest grade in the faculty to date, and my research was subsequently published in a scientific journal within the Scopus database.

After all, I found that my career preference is to land in an international development agency, especially the United Nations, where I aim to contribute integrated solutions to drive sustainable development in developing countries. Hence, I am determined to pursue environmental economics and policy research, with a focus on developing and least developed world, a desire which I believe will find a home at xxx. Unlike other program institutions that focus solely on environmental or economic elements, the program's interdisciplinary approach makes it the perfect and only choice for my master's studies. The xxx specialization in xxx would be my ideal incubator because of its focus on addressing contemporary challenges interdisciplinarily. Through class hours with Professor C. L. on xxx and Professor J. Ś. on xxx, I will be familiar with the challenges at the intersections of economic growth and environmental conservation and, therefore, develop effective economic instruments with special attention for sustainable development.

While studying at xxx, I aspire to be a leading student and researcher in my field. By focusing on my academic work, I am confident in my ability to rank among the top 10 students in the upcoming cohort, thereby enhancing the global standing of both xxx and xxx. Additionally, by leveraging the practical insights gained from my work experiences and research aptitude, I plan to publish an article in one of the top interdisciplinary journals, further strengthening my affiliation with xxx. With confidence in my future success, I aspire to represent xxx and share my experiences with xxx students to assist them in applying for this program. I aim to enhance my country's visibility within the program while ensuring equitable access for future generations.

Deciding to pursue my master's abroad is not just about furthering my education - it is about finding practical solutions that can help developing nations like xxx achieve lasting progress and bring these resources to contribute to the greater good. I look forward to spreading my wings in your renowned universities and seeing myself as a positively influential xxx alumna.

It would appear that you have an inclination to participate in the UN-SDG of your country. Your motivation will be a lot clearer and significant if you connect your motivation for masters studies with those goals, using specifics whenever possible. Try to focus on your professional motivations in the presentation. While you may discuss your college career as a part of the motivation, it should be mentioned in terms of representing how far the education got you within your field, before you decided that you need to upskill by taking a masters course overseas. Adjusting the essay to make it less wordy and more focused on your purpose for study and its basis will help the essay become more interesting. Right now, it is too long and cannot hold the interest of the reviewer because of the lack of proper focus in the discussion paragraphs.

I liked your essay. It is indeed a little long, but it does not bother me personally. If it complies with the word limit of the university and answer to all the necessary topics I think that you will be ok.

Good luck with your application!
