How have you contributed to solving a challenge and to implementing change or reform? (Be specific and include: what aspect/s of your leadership knowledge, skills and practice you consider to be well established and effective; which people or organisations you worked with to solve the problem; and what creative methods were used.)*:
During my foundation year at Build Bright University, I noticed that many students from rural areas struggled to use computers. I conducted an informal questionnaire and found that, due to financial situation and lack of computer training centers in their towns, they had minimal to no prior experience with computers. As a result, it affected their academic performance, limited job opportunities, and career development.
My goal was to introduce a study program to bridge the gap. I proposed a part-time computer literacy course tailored for beginners to master essential skills like Microsoft Office, email management, and file organization. I was responsible to gain approval from the IT professor, who was also the Vice Principal at that time to approve and launch the program.
I applied communication and persuasion skills by using a two-pronged strategy to gain his support. First, I addressed the academic impact, explaining how the program would improve student academic performance and the university's reputation. Second, I highlighted that the program is a new source of revenue. Additionally, I volunteered as a teacher's assistant in one of the classes, helping students that required extra guidance with hands-on support and ensure they can develop strong foundation skills.
The Professor approved the idea and successfully launched the program. We started three classes at different times due to high demand. The program was successful with around 60 students finished the course and the school earned approximately 3000$. Participants gained confidence and independence in using computers, they can also do their assignments without struggle and improve their long-term career opportunities.
This experience taught me that leadership includes identifying problems, creating effective solutions and communication strategies. Through MBA, I aim to enhance my strategic thinking, leadership abilities and decision-making skills which are important to manage and improve business operation.
