I began my professional career with a 4-year plus business background at Chinese Investment in Cambodia Association. I still maintain connection with this organization until now by working as a freelance translator after I upgraded to a more senior role at Kent Ridge International School (KIS) on June 2024, where I have a hybrid responsibility - working on policy document preparation for Ministry of Economy and Finance and school's human resource. My professional career shifted toward human resource management since then.
As an assistant to director, I am in charge of developing recruitment plan, manage staff data and employment contract, process work permit and visa extension for foreign staff, resolve work conflict, and staff arrangement. The challenge is that the school lacks a core implementer in HR department where the school director has to cover all. Currently, I develop recruitment plans based mainly on the school's existing practices, which lack a clear and structured documentation. That often becomes ineffective after onboarding where all staff do not have proper training and performance evaluation. Addressing this challenge requires a core person with stronger leadership in people management and deeper understanding of strategic HR practices. For this reason, I proposed to pursue Master of Human Resource Management at the Adelaide University. The university offers many relevant subjects that can fill in the gap of my leadership and HR skill including, People Analytics, Talent Acquisition and Development, Instructional Leadership, Negotiation, and Strategic Management of Human Resources. Moreover, I will have two work integrated learning subjects that contribute to building my resumé. Since KIS collaborates with Adelaide Education Group (AEG), I will use this opportunity to possibly have an internship related to the profession at AEG or its partner during my study.
