According to World Health Organization globally, around 2.2 billion people suffering from vision impairment. However, more than 90 % of cases living in low and middle-income countries can be treatable with existing highly cost-effective interventions. In India, almost 77 million people having age more than 60 suffering from vision disorders and it is estimated that the figure will increase up to 180 million by 2026 (Srinivasan et al., 2017,Doi:10.1038/eye.2017.47). Vision impairment has several causes that require advanced preventive treatment. Cataract, glaucoma, uncorrected refractive error, diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration are responsible for most global vision impairment. The lack of cost-effective treatment for these conditions needs to address. My project proposal aims to develop cost-effective treatment for posterior segment eye diseases to eliminate blindness.

Eye health is very crucial for accomplishing sustainable development goals which not only strengthen the health system but also address the issues like poverty, hunger, education, inequalities, etc. Vision problems have an undesirable impact on the quality of life and restrict equitable access and accomplishment in education and the workplace. Vision impairment increases the financial burden on individuals, families, and communities. It also affects mobility, mental health, road accidents and ultimately leads to higher mortality rates.
