Hello, Please I'm currently applying for the commonwealth distance learning scholarship and would like you to review my develoment impact statement.
Thank you!
Development Impact part 1
How your proposed study relates to: a) development issues at the global, national and local level? b) development issues connected to your chosen CSC development theme and the wider sector? (up to 200 words)
My proposed research in Construction Project Management responds to the urgent development issues at all levels. At the international level, the construction industry contributes to 37-39% of carbon emissions (International Energy Agency), not to mention the fact that it consumes large amounts of resources and produces substantial amounts of waste. Sustainable project delivery is thus necessitated to achieve climate targets and promote sustainable infrastructure. At the national level, Ghana as a country faces rapid urbanisation, lack of infrastructure and increased sensitivity to climatic risks like flooding and heat stress that have become evident in the recent past. Most projects in the country lack sustainability impact assessment leading to poor utilisation of resources, high operational cost and reduced lifespan of the infrastructure. In the metropolitan areas like Kumasi experience unreliable energy supply, poor waste management, and non-climate responsive buildings, which deteriorate livelihoods and economic productivity.
This study aligns with the development theme of the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission that gives emphasis to resilience and crisis response, and at the same time supports sustainable infrastructure delivery in the construction industry. My training will contribute to improving how infrastructure projects are conceived and implemented at the local, national and global level by focusing on climate-resilient project planning, sustainable materials, and efficient resource management. The construction industry has a significant impact on housing, energy efficiency and urban planning, therefore, strengthening project-management capacity will improve the sustainability outcome in various sectors. This approach supports long-term development, by promoting resilient communities, reducing environmental impact, and enhancing the quality and durability of infrastructure.
Each part must be in a separate topic, thank you.
