Can anyone review my personal statement and share feedback? I would greatly appreciate any comments or suggestions.
I was only nine years old-a fourth grade student, on my way home from the Supreme Pupils
Government (SPG) seminar, when my teacher and I stopped by the market to buy meat and food. In the
middle of the busy crowd, I noticed a foreigner who looked lost and anxious. He had missed his way and
needed to get to the airport for his flight home. I didn't speak perfect English, but I gathered the courage
to ask what was wrong. After understanding his situation, I quickly ran to my teacher for help. Together,
we guided him safely to the airport, which was just 30 minutes away. As we stood at the terminal and
watched the planes rise into the sky, something stirred inside me. I had never even been inside an airport,
let alone flown on a plane. Growing up in a poor neighborhood, with parents who sold fish by the
roadside to provide for our daily needs, flying felt like an impossible dream. But in that small, unexpected
moment, my heart quietly began to dream-not just of seeing airplanes, but of someday being part of the
world they carried.
As I grew older, that childhood wonder stayed with me and slowly began to take shape through the
choices I made in school. I emerged as a beacon of academic excellence and unwavering commitment to
extracurricular activities. Studying Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) strand sharpened my
communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills, while fueling my relentless pursuit of
knowledge. In the classroom, my active participation, punctuality, and infectious enthusiasm transformed
discussions into vibrant exchanges of ideas, while outside school, I embraced leadership roles that
allowed me to uplift my peers and co-students as a dedicated peer helper counselor. As a member of the
school leadership organizations and working committee, I organized events that required teamwork and
decisive leadership. Whether coordinating logistics or capturing moments as a photographer, I embraced
every responsibility with commitment.
Beyond academics and leadership, I have immersed myself in intensive life-altering training that forged
resilience, sharp decision-making, and unwavering calm under pressure. Through grueling first aid
programs and Red Cross Youth training, I served as a first aider and rescuer during our local sports
festival, and participating in Boy scout, I mastered critical lifesaving techniques, including BLS-CPR
(Basic Life Support-Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), enabling me to respond decisively in moments
when every heartbeat counts, and basic survival skills. I also completed training in fire and earthquake
drills, which instilled in me a profound understanding of how to respond and assist during emergencies-
valuable knowledge that strengthens my sense of responsibility in times of crisis. These trainings pushed
me beyond my limits, instilling responsibility, empathy, and strength to protect and reassure others in
uncertain moments-qualities at the heart of a flight attendant's role. My active engagement both inside
and outside the classroom has earned me prestigious awards, including consistent with honors with a 92%
average, and numerous recognitions from various organizations, reflecting my commitment to excellence
and my relentless pursuit of personal and academic growth.
Recognizing the limitations of my school environment, I refused to be confined by those boundaries. I
sought leadership and community roles that allowed me to grow beyond the classroom. Flashback to
2020-I was just 11 years old when a powerful earthquake struck our province. Despite my young age, I
volunteered as a local response helper in our town, delivering food to affected families and evacuees.
Currently, I proudly took on the role of Vice President of the youth in our neighborhood-a role I've held
for 3 consecutive years, where I lead local events such as town fiestas and youth gatherings. I became a
voice for my fellow youth-bringing their concerns, needs, and hopes to our community leaders. More
than just holding a title, I committed myself to being a bridge between the unheard and those in power.
Also, I participated in the National DokyuBata (Documentary) Competition-the most prestigious and
competitive documentary competition in the Philippines, where we showcased the beauty and exceptional
products of our region for future tourists. Out of 134 entries from across the Philippines, our documentary
earned a place in the Top 15. These experiences shaped me into a resilient, compassionate, and dedicated
person. I carry these lessons with hope and determination as I move closer to my dream.
For as long as I can remember, I have seen education as a doorway to new worlds-an opportunity to
grow not only in knowledge but in purpose. South Korea's education system, recognized globally for its
academic excellence and innovation, inspires me deeply-its high standards reflect the kind of learning
environment where I know I can grow not only in knowledge but also in character. While searching for a
university through the Global Korea Scholarship, I hoped to find a place that would believe in my
potential just as much as I do. That's when I discovered Kyungbok University. What drew me in was not
just its excellent facilities or strong academic programs, but its vision-to cultivate creative and
interdisciplinary talents who will help lead future society. That vision made me feel seen. It reminded me
of my own quiet hope: to someday use my skills and passion to serve, connect with people across
cultures, and make a difference in the skies. I spent time learning about Kyungbok's career-focused
education, global mindset, and commitment to shaping future professionals, and I felt something I hadn't
felt before-certainty. I knew this was where I wanted my journey to begin.
From a small town where airplanes looked like distant stars, I've always dreamed of a life spent among
the clouds-offering care, calm, and a smile to people in transit. Although I did not grow up with
privilege, I carry with me invaluable qualities: a strong work ethic, the courage to dream big, and a
genuine heart to serve others. I am a fiercely determined individual who always aim high. Through the
Global Korea Scholarship, I see not only an opportunity to study but to grow into the person I aspire to
be. And with Kyungbok University's nurturing and forward-thinking environment, I believe I will have
the guidance and opportunity to do so. While I am still learning, I am fully committed to growing both
personally and professionally-ready to take flight not only in the skies but in life itself. And I believe
that Kyungbok is where that journey can truly begin. Thank you
