What is the benefit of becoming a GOI-IES scholar, to yourself (personally and professionally), to the HEI, to Ireland, and to your country of origin?

There is a growing global demand for logistics, supply chain, and transport professionals who can optimise processes while minimising environmental impact. Becoming a GOI-IES scholar will give me the opportunity to gain international exposure in this field and position me as a professional capable of contributing to sustainable solutions for current and future supply chain challenges. With a first degree in Transport Planning and Management, alongside a few years of experience in the transport and logistics sector, this opportunity will allow me to access the world-class education offered at Atlantic Technological University. The Master's in Sustainable Supply Chain Operations will equip me with leadership skills, technical knowledge, and a global perspective to manage modern logistics complexities. Professionally, it will deepen my understanding of sustainability, the circular economy, and digital technologies in supply chains. The knowledge gained will strengthen my ability to contribute effectively in Nigeria while competing globally and applying sustainable, practical solutions to improve supply chain efficiency and address real-world challenges.

To Atlantic Technological University, I plan to contribute to the ongoing research activities of the Operations and Supply Chain Research Centre (OSCAR), whose core themes focus on sustainability, digitalisation, service innovation, and global supply chains. The research work of Maria Malik, a PhD candidate at ATU, on Innovative Sustainable Urban Last Mile Logistics in omnichannel retail, particularly caught my attention because of its relevance to the future of logistics. Throughout my professional career, I have used technology to solve logistics and supply chain challenges in Nigeria and Canada through tools such as telematics and data analytics. I believe my practical experience will allow me to contribute valuable perspectives to research discussions and projects within the university.

For Ireland, I see this opportunity as a chance to contribute to the country's growing logistics and supply chain ecosystem. According to the SOLAS Difficult-to-Fill Vacancies Survey in November 2025, the transport and logistics sector accounted for about 12% and ranked third among the most difficult-to-fill roles in Ireland. With the increasing demand for professionals with both operational and digital skills, I plan to contribute to Ireland's growth through work-integrated learning and applied industry projects during my final semester. This will allow me to gain practical industry experience while contributing to the development of Ireland's logistics sector.

To my home country, Nigeria, I plan to use the knowledge and global exposure gained as a GOI-IES scholar to contribute to sustainable transportation and logistics development. I intend to serve as a transportation consultant to the Ministry of Transport in Ogun State, where I completed my undergraduate internship and still maintain professional connections with key officials. Additionally, I plan to give back to the university where I completed my first degree by organising seminars and workshops that expose students and future professionals to emerging technologies, industry trends, and opportunities within the transport and logistics sector. Since this field is still developing in Nigeria, I believe this will help build professional capacity and prepare future graduates to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals.
