As a Legal Officer involved in state revenue and international cooperation, working with complex contracts and agreements, one of the most challenging aspects of my work is navigating the complexity of regulatory compliance, bureaucratic requirements, and the level of detail required across different stages of cooperation. In my role, I often encounter challenges in dealing with the different legal frameworks applied by each party, particularly in ensuring that agreements clearly reflect obligations and liabilities, and can be implemented consistently in practice.
In this line of work, it is important to have a comprehensive understanding of different legal approaches, especially those arising from international engagement. As Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional continues to expand its cooperation with both public and private sector partners globally, I have come to realise that legal expertise alone is not sufficient. There is a need to better understand how legal frameworks operate within broader governance systems, how to approach negotiation, and how to work with different legal requirements that each party may be bound to.
I chose the Master of Laws (LLM) programs at the Australian National University and University of Sydney due to their flexibility and relevance to my professional needs. Both programs offer coursework structures that allow me to focus on international legal frameworks, regulatory approaches, and comparative law.
Moreover, both institutions offer courses that will help me better understand how law continues to evolve, particularly in response to technological developments and their impact on legal practice. I am particularly interested in gaining a deeper understanding of dispute resolution, as well as how to approach cooperation between government and business entities. In addition, I would like to further explore international legal frameworks, including treaties that influence economic activities across countries, particularly within the Asian region.
I am particularly interested in ANU's policy-oriented environment in Canberra, which provides insight into how legal frameworks operate within government processes. Meanwhile, the University of Sydney offers broader international perspectives, which will support my understanding of how different jurisdictions regulate economic activities.
These programs will help me strengthen my ability to contribute to more coherent and effective legal and institutional practices in Indonesia.
