I will be applying to the British Council STEM scholarship programme, and first I need to apply to the University course.
The motivation letter needs between 500 to 1000 words and answer:
Your reasons for choosing to study at Brunel University London
Your reasons for choosing the course
How this course will contribute to your chosen future career plans
Any other information you wish us to consider, i.e. relevant experience relating to your intellectual, professional, social, sports or other interests.
I appreciate you making the correction.

LETTER OF MOTIVATION

I have been passionate about textiles since childhood, as the field offers a special combination of art and science. My passion for sustainability grew slowly while completing my undergraduate studies in Textile Science at NED University of Engineering and Technology. At first my interests were practical: why things are made of fibres, how fabric behaves, what happens in dyeing and finishing. But as I continued my education, I came to understand that textiles were not only engineered products, they are closely tied to a much larger system that impacts our environment and societies. This changing perspective made me realise how important it was to focus on sustainable practice within the industry.

In the modules on wet processing and dyeing, I learnt about the chemical-intensive processes that use large amounts of water and release pollutants into the environment. This shifted my perspective on the textile industry, I got to thinking not just about process and production and efficiency, but also about possibilities for making those processes more intelligent and more responsible.

This curiosity became central to my final year project, as I experimented with dyeing cotton fabric with natural banana leaf extracts as opposed to synthetic dyes. I did several runs, tried various mordants and tested the fastness. In the process, I realised that natural products can be utilised to minimise environmental harm, yet one can still achieve creditable results. This project was a real benchmark for me and it enabled me to bring together material science and environmental responsibility.
Alongside my studies I did internships at Artistic Milliners and Mekotex and was able to get real insight into large textile production. Viewing the production flow, finishing process, printing methods, and quality control procedures gave me a clear view of what can really be done in the industrial world. I also saw that environmental issues often took a back seat to production goals. These views inspired me to investigate how Eco-friendly design, business planning and strategic decision-making could be incorporated into manufacturing systems, while still maintaining its efficiency.

It is with the above experiences that prompted me to choose to apply for the MSc Sustainability, Entrepreneurship and Design at Brunel University London. I am especially drawn to this programme as it offers a one-of-a-kind combination of sustainability, design and business thinking which reflects my growing interests and career aspirations. My Bachelor's degree has given me the technical background, but I want to look at how products and industrial systems can be redesigned for environmental sustainability. The interdisciplinary nature of the course, focusing on the convergence of technical innovation, sustainable practise and entrepreneurial strategy is very much in alignment with my academic background in textile science and my work related experience in sustainability projects. I feel that this particular course will allow me to combine my scientific background with wider sustainable development aims, therefore I would say this course is the perfect match for what I hope to achieve.

I am interested in the modules Sustainable Design, Strategic Sustainable Development, and Business Planning as they will give me a better insight into how environmental considerations can be integrated into real industrial situations. By learning to apply life cycle analysis and principles of sustainable product design, I will be able to assess textile processes not only at a technical but at a system level. I'm also interested in the entrepreneurial side of the course as I feel that environmentally responsible concepts need to be practical and financially sustainable.

Another reason why I am applying to brunel is because of its emphasis on practical education. I like education that allows me to solve real-world problems and I am especially attracted by the research project and design-based modules in this programme. I think that this strategy would help me gain both technical and strategic competences.

Throughout my undergraduate degree, I gained excellent analytical and reporting skills from practical classwork, assignments as well as final year project. The balance of my studies with internships contributed to the development of my time management and organisational skills. These experiences have equipped me to the requirements of further studies at the postgraduate level.

After the completion of this MSc, I intend to pursue my career in sustainable production and eco-friendly manufacturing, preferably in the field of textile. I am seeking positions in which I can contribute to enhancement of processing techniques, selection of materials and production systems. I want to take what I learn and apply it to industries that are trying to decrease their impact on the environment, while still being viable in the economy.

I think that studying MSc Sustainability, Entrepreneurship and Design at Brunel University will be the perfect next step for me. It will provide me with the opportunity to expand my technical knowledge and understanding of sustainability, design, and business. I'm inspired to pursue this course and I want to learn the skills which I need in future to be able to help the industry becoming more responsible.

Most masters degree students believe that they need to reference their childhood interest in a particular field or course when applying for masters admission. The truth is that the reviewers do not care about childhood references. They are most interested to learn how your interest developed in college and how that interest was further fueled by your professional experiences. In this essay, you have one sentence at the start that references a childhood interest. You can delete that as it does not contribute anything of value to the actual content.

As the university will be considering this a part of your first person, oral interview, it is important that you use the remaining word count to introduce your personal life to the reviewer. Discuss how you interact with your community, what activities you participate in at certain or personal activities, what you enjoy doing after work, or any other reference that would indicate the kind of character that you have and how it might be perceived as a positive contribution to the university's international community, without directly indicating it.
