I choose to pursue my master's degree in Public health to learn how to reduce the number of children in Indonesia who suffers rampant caries, a severe type of tooth decays that appears on baby teeth. The public health study will improve my method as a dentist in preventing rampant caries in Indonesia's children on the broader sector.

My concern and interest in rampant caries prevention have enabled me to create a dental health education program to reach out to students and parents to save their children's teeth from severe tooth decay. However, my program is simple and lacking in many ways that I believe I have to make it more comprehensive and empowering to be easily implemented in different parts of the country, regardless of the Covid-19 pandemic situation. This is the major drive for my intention to pursue further education in Public Health.

Dental health problems have been affecting more Indonesia's children now, as the pandemic disrupts access to dental health care. It could lead to even higher number of rampant caries, compromise children's overall health and increase their risk of further infection. To reduce this disease, I need to learn about public health theories and implement them in my program. My improved program will help many children have healthy teeth and resulting in improved general health.

I am interested in studying at The University of Melbourne because its Public Health institution is the leading in Australia. On top of that, only at the University of Melbourne offers capstone experience that could allow me to have Professional Practice Placement in a community organization concerned with health. I intend to use this opportunity to practice the implementation of public health knowledge in real-world scenarios. I am interested in doing this because the knowledge I get will valuable to my future career.

Immediately connect this statement to dentistry. Most applicants for this come from medical health fields so it is best to be clear from the start.


Is there no government program for public dentistry that you can mention? Your reasons are too lightweight for it to create a true sense off importance in the opinion of the reviewer.


You have a problem. The application requires 2 university courses and /or choices. You cannot pigeon hole your application by insisting on acceptance to just one university. If you do not add a second university, you may not qualify for the scholarship,specially on the heels of such weak reasons for choosing your masters course. You can actually study a masters in public health in you home country due to these simplistic reasons and intentions. There is no clear need for you to study abroad at this point.
