Hello, this is my first new thread, and I'm a bit confused about how to write my essay for a few prompts. I am new to writing essays, and the deadline is tomorrow. Please share your thoughts and corrections, as they would help me so much. Thank you!!
Prompt 1: Why is sustainability important to you? What aspects of sustainability or the energy industry most interest you?
OPTION 1:Sustainability isn't about reversing the Earth's damage but being able to sustain the life we are living. Rather than banning plastics, we could turn trash into energy to encourage green economic growth for people. To me, sustainability is a resilient and fair system that uses natural resources to promote social justice and economic prosperity, like reducing ecological footprints while fostering relationships with the planet to help cities, economies, and communities thrive harmoniously.
OPTION 2: I understood sustainability through atoms, specifically nuclear energy. How uranium atoms split to generate heat without greenhouse gas emissions, making it a key solution to the energy crisis and global warming. While accidents like Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima remind us of the human and environmental costs, they also highlight the importance of innovation, regulation, and responsible development for a sustainable future.
Prompt 2: Interacting with people who are different from us is an important part of intercultural experiences. What about your identity do you see as important or unique?
Having astigmatism and strabismus made me see life in a different perspective. Though it initially lowered my social self-esteem, it taught me to approach challenges from various angles, even when the path was unclear. It strengthens my collaboration skills, helping me embrace diverse ideas rather than seeking one "correct" view while also evaluating side hardships that may appear along the way. Rather than seeing my condition as a limitation, I see it as a force to accelerate my growth.
Prompt 3: What would the opportunity to participate in this program mean to you? How will you use this experience to grow your understanding of different perspectives and collaborate with people?
Wading through chest-high polluted floodwater in my city and seeing kids picking plastics as a means of survival opened my eyes to the cost of our selfishness and irresponsibility to our planet. By working with others who share the same hope, I want to embrace discomfort, challenge myself, and grow. I aim to finish this program with a vision reflecting peers collaborating to impact society. Demographics don't define unity, but our shared courage in building a sustainable future together does.
Thank you so much!!
