Hi Guys,
today I got a pretty interesting task. I need to come up with an 8 minute presentation and its subject needs to divide the public opinion so that the others can debate other 8 minutes on this certain topic. In fact, the presentation should be more like a prelude to the debate... The task says that the subject was supposed to be unique, interesting and creative.
Which topic do you think would fit all these criteria? I have already come up with some ideas, but they don't seem to be very interesting... (for instance: pope, korea, or maybe I should pick just something general I do some research on it). I would be glad if you could give me some advice.

Well the recent laws passed on gun control would certainly last 8 minutes in debate (assuming no one else takes this topic). There are so many topics you could choose which could split an audience. You could take that first idea and do the general basis of limiting the rights of American citizens. Other ideas: gay marriage, NASA stopping space exploration, abortion, funding of abortion, the economy (is it getting better...so many topics could be on the economy, you'd have to narrow it down), the current furlough, etc. Hope this helps!

Which do you think would be the best?
-Is animal testing a bad thing? (it was banned from the EU last week...)
-Is any of the economic systems better than the others? Do we need a new one?
-Global warming: real threat or just imagined?
-There are no bad children, just bad parents
-Is the world develping or is it just changing?
-Do we need space exploration?
This presentation is actually a task for a scholarship program. It is part of the application...
You have a solid lists because of the variety it consists of. Here are my thoughts on your list.
- The animal testing is a good one because of how current it is and the argument both sides would be able to produce due to the amount of research that has been done.
- I think the economy is a touchy subject based on the countless debate topics you could discuss. I personally wouldn't choose this because of the possibility of not submitting anything that stood out to them. It would just be another summary of what we hear everyday.
- The Global Warming is also another one I wouldn't choose unless I was able to really make it stand out. Much like the economy suggestion, it has been covered immensely in the past years.
- I like this one but I wouldn't put it as bad kids and bad parents but more "Are kids more likely to act out if their parents are not supportive" or maybe even "if the parents are separated."
- I'm not sure I fully understand this one. I think this one ties in to the Global Warming question. However, maybe you could use something along the lines of "Are we overusing this planets resources?"
- The space exploration is a great one too with all the closures and developments that have happened in the past year.
