Boston University Engineering essay

Biology has always been my favorite class I have taken at any grade level. I enjoyed it my freshmen year and I enjoy it now at the advanced placement level. The one part of the class that really intrigues me is the human body. The human body is the most interesting topic I have ever studied in any class. One would never realize how much work and energy is used to keep up the human body; it truly is amazing. I already knew I wanted to go into a career that involved the human body, but what exactly I wanted to go into I was still unsure about. There was however one event in my life that allowed me to make a decision.

It was the winter of my sophomore year when my aunt was submitted to the hospital because she was having heart problems. She was required to get a triple by-pass done and the procedure was a success. However there were a few complications that arose. Apparently she had a minor stroke in her back, and this incident has left her walking with a walker two years later. After this I knew that I wanted to do something involving medicine, and help people recover from tragic accidents like this. However I did not want to be a doctor. So after much thought I decided that biomedical engineering would suite me best. I have read many times that the human body is the most complex machine, and that engineers marvel at how it works, similar to how I do. As a biomedical engineer I realized that I could research treatments and different therapies to be used on people who suffered similar issues as my aunt.

I also wanted to do more research involving the different aspects of the human body. One that I in very interested in is stem cell research. I find stem cells to be one of the more amazing parts of the human body. These pluripotent cells have the possibility to become any cell in the human body. This means they can be used to develop treatments for things that we have always thought to be irreversible. Sin these cells come from the human body they should not run out. This research could allow for many injuries and defects that have left people permanently damaged to be reversed. It could make a huge difference in the lives of millions, and possibly my aunt's.

Biomedical engineering is an ideal major for me.
It allows for me to study the human body while saving people in the process.

Great job! A few comma issues, but great essay! Good luck!

The human body is the most interesting topic I have ever studied in any class. I would suggest shortening like this: The most intriguing topic I have ever studied is the human body. Redundancy...

Change "it truly is amazing" to it is truly amazing
One that I {am} very interested in is stem cell research
Just suggestions =] Good luck!
