In the space provided, please write a concise narrative in which you describe a meaningful event, experience or accomplishment in your life and how it will affect your college experience or your contribution to the UF campus community. You may want to reflect on your ideas about student responsibility, academic integrity, campus citizenship or a call to service.

The day I witnessed my family members and friends cry was in the same day my life changed forever. I witnessed this in an airport in Argentina just minutes before I started boarding the plane to start my new life in the United States. One the airplane I was scared and did not know what to expect when we landed but my parents said "it is going to be ok and the US will not be that big of a change". Once the airplane touched down and we started to disembark I saw that the US is a completely different place than Argentina.

The first time I arrived to school the teacher introduced me to the class By saying" Class, this is Geronimo and he will be joining us for these last three months of the school year" . On this day I was embarrassed and confused because no one could pronounce my name and I found it hard to understand what anyone was saying to me. I was in my chair sad because I missed my friends in Argentina, until one of my classmates approached me speaking Spanish, his name was Jose and he was from Puerto Rico. I was thrilled to find another person I could interact without a huge cultural and language barrier. Though I missed my friends in Argentina Jose helped me transition easier to be more involved with the rest of the class.

As weeks passed I found that the English courses I took in Argentina where starting to pay off. Not only did it help with the interaction with the class and teachers but also with the school work. When I realized I could have conversations with my peers school started to appeal to me and I enjoyed talking about my culture and listen to what they had to say. At the end of the year we celebrated with a class party were everyone brought different types of foods. On this day I brought something my mom makes called empanadas which is a common dish in Argentina. Everyone was intrigued to try them and to my surprise they all loved it.

My fear after that year became a desire to share my culture with others and learn about this new culture I am living in. Now eight years after this life-changing event I have incorporated American culture in my daily life with out losing any of my Argentine culture. At the University of Florida I want to teach others about my Argentine culture and learn more about the American and other cultures present at the campus.

On the airplane I was scared, and did not know what to expect when we landed, but my parents said, "It is going to be ok and the US will not be that big of a change."

When I realized I could have conversations with my peers school started to appeal to me ----This is a tremendous accomplishment, and I think lots of people will be impressed by this essay.
