This is my first time actually posting on this site; can any of you give me suggestions on words to put?
Or how to end my essay? That is what I'm having the biggest difficulty with. I kind of want to tie the beginning into the end, but I don't know how!
As a descendant of slaves and a long line of hard workers, strength pumps through my veins. Being part of the Haitian culture has influence many parts of my life. As a child, there were no bedtime fantasies, but instead, there were tales of my ancestors and their contribution to the Haitian Revolution of 1804. These stories inspired me to work diligently toward my life goals and to remain true to my convictions. Hearing about how my ancestors were able to fight for their beliefs, I too learned that perseverance makes it possible to attain my goals.
One of the most important qualities of the Haitian culture is embodied in the values of family and strength of all kinds. From childhood, I was taught that a close family is one that stays together under all circumstances. I took these values for granted until my father died when I was nine years old. My "perfect" life had ceased to exist. The impact of such a sudden loss shook my family to the core. Having to adjust to this change so quickly made my next few years in school difficult. Never before had I experienced such emotional pain. As time passed, my mother began to demonstrate her strength by gradually overcoming the tragedy, completing her master's degree, and raising a child with the help of her siblings. Years later, it became my turn to prove that my mother's efforts were not in vain.
Everyday I try to emulate the drive and hard work that got her through her hardest times. Unsatisfied with regular level coursework, I registered for AP classes that would allow me to get a taste of the higher education that I strive for. I disregarded the discouraging words of others, proving them wrong with every step towards my success.
When I think about the bedtime stories I heard as a child, I realize the impact they had on my life. _____________________.I have learned that an education will help me to achieve my full potential, and I no longer take it for granted. I am confident with my ability to overcome whatever challenges I will face. The next year will mark the beginning of the most important of my life. The past is behind us; all that remains is the present and my future filled with academia, social and personal pursuits.
