Short answer question 1-
"We know that diversity makes us a better university - better for learning, for teaching, and for conducting research." (U-M President Mary Sue Coleman)

Share an experience through which you have gained respect for intellectual, social, or cultural differences. Comment on how your personal experiences and achievements would contribute to the diversity of the University of Michigan. (250 words)

The folded chairs set crowded around the table were nearly full. Thick and thin, strait and curly, black, white, red, yellow and all shades of brown. Nervously, I sat down between two girls and smiled as I wondered what I could bring to the club. The clock struck six and a tall Asian man rose to greet us with what seemed like a simple question, "What brings you here today?" As my turn drew near I quickly remembered what I came for and smiled again.

"My name is Natasha, I'm from Midland, in the Lower Peninsula," I explained as I held up my hand to point and heard giggles from around the table. "Although it may seem boring, I was born and raised in that same city but curiosity drew me to this meeting, I came here to learn."

Now, with seven All Nations Club meetings under my belt, I have had the opportunity to experience and taste Asia, Puerto Rico, Germany, Native American tribes, and more directly through their stories. Little did I know they were just as curious about me. Being a middle-class, white, suburban girl, I am not the first thing that comes to mind when asked about diversity. It seems that the more a group consists of people from different backgrounds the less resistance they hold to newcomers. At the University o f Michigan I hope to continue to bring people together as well as be surrounded and inspired by the blend of cultures that produces such creativity and success.

(254 WORDS)

I wanted to write about a recent experience and it had to be really short...any feedback would be great :)

Good evening.

Mechanically, are my suggestions:

"The folded chairs set crowded around the table were nearly full. Thick and thin, strait and curly, black, white, red, yellow, and all shades of brown."

This is an excellent response! Very nice work!
