Why would you like a Fermilab internship and what special qualities would you bring to the position? Answer in 500 words or less.
Curiosity is something that has always been present in me since I have memory, since my young years I remember to wonder, be interested and fascinated about how everything around me works; some of the doubts I remember having were if the gasoline they put in the car, water, milk, cooking oil and all the liquids were "made of the same stuff" for being liquids, how planes flew, why the smoke the factories or a burning paper produced "disappears" in the air, why clouds were white, the sky blue and the sun yellow, and I remember asking my parents about all these doubts, but not all of them were answered. As I grew up, with all the information the life, the books and specially the school gave me, all these doubts were solved.
At the end of primary school and the beginning of high school I started to realize that I had good skills for mathematics and natural sciences since I outstood on these subjects, even, since eighth grade I started participating in the Colombian mathematics Olympiads in which, since ninth grade, got to get into the final rounds. In tenth grade I met a physics teacher, Juan Serna, who made me found the love for this science, and in eleventh grade another excellent teacher, Guillermo Toro, who additionally, for the first time, supported and helped me in the physics and mathematics competitions I participated, same who encouraged me to participate in the first chemistry Olympiads organized by the University of Antioquia, which took me by surprise to win, because I never got prepared specially for these and presented them only with the knowledge I have acquired at school.
When the moment of taking the decision on which road to take, some of the things I loved the most, physics, math, chemistry and biology, were fighting in my head, but then, after a lot of thinking, I decided to study physics, but due to my economic situation I couldn't leave my city, and the only prestigious university in my city that offers this career, University of Antioquia, have some public order issues which make semesters to stop indefinitely; because of this I decided to study engineering physics at the National University of Colombia, since it was the most similar career I found in a good university, but always trying to focus on the theory over the applied, because it's in what I was and am more interested in.
From the beginning of my university studies I have been particularly interested in the experimental practices on mechanics, electricity and magnetism, waves and optics, and modern physics, especially in the theory behind them, and beside these experimental practices other subjects I've really enjoyed are the most focused on theory like modern physics, quantum mechanics 1, radiation physics, and three theoretical physics subjects which are relativistic quantum mechanics, special topics in quantum mechanics, and groups and symmetry theory in subatomic and subnuclear physics, all three given by Luis Alberto Sanchez, the only professor of my university specialized exclusively in theoretical physics.
For all these, this Fermilab internship would be the perfect opportunity to study physics, know a wonderful place, a new country, and something very important, people interested in physics, like me, because for my own means, especially economic, achieving it all would be complicated.
