TOPIC: What makes you a perfect candidate for FIT? Why are you interested in the major you're applying for? This is your chance to tell us about your accomplishments, experiences, and activities.
I am a determined person who truely believes in having the courage and bravery to persue my dreams and make it a reality. Therefore, I awknoledge this decision will take a lot of my effort and sacrifice, just as I have been doing since i am in middle school, obtaining excellent grades and putting enthusiasm on what I do until my present time.
My interest for fashion woke up in a fresh afternoon when I was playing with my favorite princess barbie doll, and I started making and sewing new outfits; a skirt, a blouse all stylish. As I was getting older, my fascination for this major increased. Later on I discovered to be good at landscape and portraits drawings in school, my passion for drawing led me to get more inspired in the fashion area, as the time was passing by, people would see my fashion drawings and they get impressed. However, my family's belief were opposite to me, they have never ever consider my passion for fashion design as a worthy career, and always tryed to push me to other major choices, like architect, doctor or anything else that has more worthiness for them.Anyway, i didnt let this stop me to persue what i have really dreamed of and after graduating of high school I get enrolled at a non credit institution of art where I am still taking some fashion courses.During the first semester of this course, I learned many basic concepts about fashion and as I am getting more involved, I am getting in love of pattern making and fashion ilustration, to me both are the base to propel a perfect design. On the other hand, I am also improving my sewing skills to the highest level, since this is the powerful instrument of any fashion designer, actually since I have learned how to sew I make some of my own garments.
One of the challenges I have faced during the pattern class is to repeat over and over many patterns just to come across with a design I have in mind. This is not an easy
Work, but I have the patience and passion needed to remake and make beutifull outfits out of those patterns. Besides, the fact of combine styles, colors, fabrics is one of the things that make me love day after day this major, because I can expand my creativity and give it life.
Moreover, I am the type of person who always would invent and create many kind of things such as sacrapbooking, painting, crafts or making up jewlry which is one of my favorite hobbies. Eventually, as a teenager I took some jewlry courses from which I set up my own bussinnes as a freelancer. It consists in making up by hand some necklaces, bracelets or fashion accesories and sell them out to shopping spots or people around me who liked my accesories. Nowadays, I focus on this business since then.
Finally, I am in front of my biggest chance to acquire a vast of skills to stand out as a fashion designer and aknowledge that a degree from FIT will propel me to my main goal -become an excelent fashion designer who can bring the best to the community and world with all the knowledge and dedication embraced.
