This is the personal essay prompt:
"In the space provided, please write a concise narrative in which you describe a meaningful event, experience or accomplishment in your life and how it will affect your college experience or your contribution to the UF campus community. You may want to reflect on your ideas about student responsibility, academic integrity, campus citizenship or a call to service."
It sounds like they're looking for an uplifting essay like a happy thing or something like that, but would it be wise or appropriate to write about how I was cyber bullied and harassed in school by a group of former friends? They posted a ton of crap on facebook about me, and inappropriately tagged pictures of me (could have been considered sexual harassment), and stole my gym clothing (shirt, shorts, nice sneakers). I was going to talk about how the cyber bullying and harassment affected my self esteem and made me slip into a depression, how I lost motivation to do well in school so my grades suffered drastically, how I isolated myself from friends, and I was going to end with how I came out of the ordeal a stronger, more confident individual... Then talk about how I want to use my new found confidence to excel at the University Of Florida.
PS: my vice principal got involved and helped me sort everything out, so he could definitely approve the essay or sign it or put in a letter of recommendation saying something about the cyber bullying and harassment.
Any pointers, suggestions, ideas, or critiques?
A good tip I heard one time is if you are going to write an essay about a "depressing" topic is to keep the bad stuff to the first 2/5 - 3/5 of the paper and make sure to end with the majority of it being positive. Now this is a very... controversial topic and only you can make the judgement call on whether you should write it or not. If it is written well, then I could see it working out. But if you don't know for sure you can make it a good essay, then I would seriously think about other topics. Maybe just write it and post it on here and someone will help you out :)
