Hi! I am a community student planning to transfer after I graduate. This is the essay written for undergraduate transfer admission to Cornell University. My current major is Business Administration, and I want to study economic at Cornell so I want to explain it a bit in my essay. Please kindly point out the areas where you see the need for improvement. The deadline for the application is Oct 15.

Tell us what you'd like to major in at Cornell, and why or how your past academic or work experience influenced your decision, and how transferring to Cornell would further your academic interests. (Please limit your response to 650 words.)

Coming from a country where needs are hardly met, since the age I can remember, I was caught up with day-to-day activities of juggling between work and school to carry out all my obligations. All the questions that came out of my curiosity slowly faded away as I grew older.

When I decided to attend [Current College], having a vague interest, I wanted to take elective classes and explore a major that would be a perfect fit for me. Yet, I soon came to learn that my college does not provide "Undecided" as an option, and students are required to declare a major. So I decided to settle in Business Administration as it makes a smooth transition transferring to a four-year institution. After taking introductory level economic classes, the vivid memory of myself asking my parents the concept of money came back to me. I was fascinated by all the various topics ranging from business cycles to monetary policy and how government and individuals play their roles in an economy. I began to closely follow economic news and each week I would bring my own economic topics to [Current College] economic club to discuss them further with my fellow club members; I knew that I have found the path I wanted to take. Since then I made my decision to pursue economic major in a senior college upon graduating from [Current College].

The location of the college is already an attraction since it is very close to home, but it is not the only reason. During my visit to Cornell last year, I was absolutely impressed by the beautiful campus, bright and compassionate students and it's unique economic program. In addition to all the opportunities Cornell offers, The Cornell Economic Society, where The Visible Hand journal is published, is another compelling aspect of College of Art and Sciences that makes me even more excited to pursue an economic degree at Cornell. I believe the College of Art and Sciences at Cornell, with prestigious education and dedicated faculty, would be a perfect place for me to continue my undergraduate education to deepen my knowledge, meet other talented students, and challenge myself intellectually.

I acknowledge that Cornell's curriculum is challenging, however, I am confident that I will succeed and thrive at Cornell if I am given the chance. Not only that it will be such a privilege to attend a prestigious college like Cornell, the experience and knowledge that I will gain will serve as the foundation to explore more economic issues and succeed in my future career.
