This is the first statement of purpose I've ever written. Any tips or critique would be greatly appreciated! I want this to be perfect!

*Requirements* The statement should be no more than 500 words in length and should give an overview of the applicant's academic and personal experience, describing preparation for and commitment to further study at SCAD, as well as educational and professional goals and aspirations.**

As a child my uncle was a Standardbred jockey in Maryland, on the weekends my father and I would attend his races. We were able to tour the barns and love on the horses, which always created an exciting experience. The races were over within a matter of minutes, but the thrill would stay with me for days. However, It wasn't until my uncle scooped me up and placed me on his buggy in the winner's circle, that I realized I wanted to pursue a career with horses.

My family has never been wealthy, nor poor; however a hobby in horses is an expensive one and grievously were unable to provide it. So at a young age, my parents had instilled the value of working hard for what I want. I was able to achieve my history with horses by being the barn's main help. Mucking stalls, grooming horses, feeding, whatever was asked of me; I followed through. By doing this, I believe it has given me a greater appreciation and better understanding of what I do. I somehow managed to keep horses a major part of my life.

Throughout the years, my love and passion for horses has never ceased to increase. I continuously find myself looking to expand my knowledge, gain experience and teach others. After many years of hard work and pursuance I have been priviledged to teach lessons, train horses, and compete in shows. By attending SCAD I am confident that I can enhance the equestrian team in a whole. I am eager to work with other students in aiding each other to grow and excel, as well as share my riding talents. Experiencing SCAD, as well as being a member of the equestrian team and studies will grant me great access to a profession I love; by providing me with further management, performance, and care knowledge in the equine industry. There is nothing I want more than to share my experiences with others; to show them the freedom, compassion, and spirit horses have to offer. I believe attending SCAD will guide me step by step, and deliver me to the front door of my dream.
