A little rough I must admit, but any suggestions are welcome!
For almost one hundred years, the Latin words, "Vires, Artes, Mores" have been the guiding philosophy behind Florida State University. Vires signifies strength of all kinds - moral, physical, and intellectual; Artes alludes to the beauty of intellectual pursuits as exemplified in skill, craft, or art; and Mores refers to character, custom, or tradition. Describe how one or more of the values embodied in these concepts are reflected in your life.

People are defined by their choices and their values in life. Each value instilled into all of us acts as a reflection of our own selves, revealing the character within. We are all guided by many different values in our own lives, and mine are reflected in my everyday behavior. The Latin concepts "Artes" and "Mores" are just two that define me.

One of the most significant values in my life is my love for music, which can be defined as my "Artes." As a Clarinetist in both the Wind Ensemble and Marching Band, I have come to love my skill more so than I had ever thought possible. Music gave me an opportunity to appreciate a very wonderful and beautiful part of life. Not only could I express myself through melodies, rhythms, and the emotions of the phrases, but I could share these nuances with other people. Those who sat and listened were as much a part of the experience as those who sat and played along beside me. I was lucky enough to be involved in an art that came with a family as dedicated as I was to accomplish something. It was a family that I traveled with to festivals that included cities like Chicago and the event of all events: The Music For All National Concert Festival in Indianapolis. I, as well as all those around me, dedicated our hearts and minds to our music and no matter what the outcome was, we had still created something beautiful. That need to create and imagine has stayed with me from all those experiences with my music, and is something I will appreciate for the rest of my life.

I am also defined by "Mores," which signifies a strength in character. I believe that I have a strong sense of what is important to me in my life, which I work hard to keep. Although initially shy, I have a friendly and confident voice and use it to express what I feel is necessary in order to share my opinions and share a sense of kindness to everyone. I believe that kindness translates to other people, and can be passed from one person to the next if it is embraced. This idea is especially important to me and in what I deem as a strength in character. In order to create a positive difference in the world, you have to have the ability to create a positive atmosphere around you. Strength in character does not come from being the best; strength in character comes from being your best at whatever you choose to do in life. This requires you to be strong and confident in yourself for something you have faith in. I believe I have these qualities, and through my experiences so far, I have found that I am an intelligent and confident young woman who is comfortable in her own skin and ready to make a difference in the world.

Use this essay as a warm-up. I think you have a better one waiting to emerge. Sit at the computer and really get inspired. I think this essay is devoid of inspiration because they make you write about THEIR concepts... instead of your own.

But do not start by saying this made you realize something. Also, do not answer the questions as if you are responsible for giving the most accurate answers possible. Instead, come up with your own creative theme, marrying artes and mores, a theme about which you can get inspired.

Thank You. After I had submitted the initial rough draft, I reworked what I had, because I could tell my ideas were all over the place.
