Here are the instructions from the application:

Limit your response to 300 words. Reflect on your answer and be attentive to spelling and grammar. There are no wrong answers to this question.

As you think about the next four years, what are you looking forward to that might surprise your friends or family members?

OR

why are you considering the ohio state university?

Essay suggestions:

We're looking for responses that might tell us something about you that we wouldn't pick up from the rest of the application.

You aren't expected to reveal any deep, dark secrets: we're primarily interested in what excites you about the prospect of going to college; visiting a foreign country? Taking an unusual course? Joining a certain club?

Don't dwell on the "surprise" element; just think about the opportunities that are ahead.

Mixed Bag

Growing up in a Hispanic family with a dissimilar cultural background from the rest of society, can sometimes give the feeling of not fitting in, and depending where you at, has made me feel as if being different could be a bad thing. When I started my search for colleges the key word was diversity. Family has always been very important to me as well as being close to them, so finding a college close to home had a substantial role. Now that I am starting this new journey, The Ohio State University has always been a priority.

The Ohio State University, I believe, gives so many opportunities for the individual to succeed, providing the student body with multiple elements to grow and express themselves in all the ways possible. They allow the students to explore in a mixed bag, but at the same time give that feeling of being right at home. Their numerous choices of majors helps their students define who they really want to be, as well as with their infinite and unthinkable variety of clubs and organizations that let me know how important it is for them to provide their students with diverse selection where everyone can find something he or she can enjoys.

In love with the campus is what I felt when I went on my college visit. Since the moment I got there to today I can not help but feel excitement in thinking what it could be to one day form part of The Ohio State University community. Being a first generation student and coming from a family who has had no further post-secondary education I know that this is the place that will help me succeed and grow into the person I am working hard to become.
