Hey, the Johns Hopkins application is due in a couple days, so any critiques or corrections will really be appreciated!!
1. Johns Hopkins offers 50 majors across the schools of Arts and Sciences and Engineering. On this application, we ask you to identify one or two that you might like to pursue here. Why did you choose the way you did? If you are undecided, why didn't you choose? (If any past courses or academic experiences influenced your decision, you may include them in your essay.)

Here's what I got so far:
When I was a kid, I used to think I would be a neurosurgeon, but I quickly saw that my heart was in mathematics. This ambition to be better at math grew from the many of my family members failing to do well in school because they could not grasp the subject. I believed that to be successful, I had to be the exception. I loved being good at math, and I worked hard not to fall behind. I refused to turn in tests until I got every question and I refused to use a calculator to improve mental calculation.

After getting grounded for taking the cathode ray tube out of the TV and my attempts to make a portable Gamecube (I just need a LCD screen and I should be good to go), I now see I have the mind of an engineer. Yet, I still want my work to benefit society and I want to save lives in the way that doctors do. My mother received her resident-ship two years late to go to Mexico and say goodbye to my Grandfather before he died. If the research would have been their, my mom would of had the opportunity to see him again instead of 17 years ago.

Through biomedical engineering I can do research in finding ways to apply nanotechnology in fighting disease that where thought incurable a decade ago. In this way I'm thinking like an engineer, but with the mission of a doctor.

It's good, but you need to get a little more specific in why you wanted to major in the subjects that you chose.
