Northwestern Supplement (choice of school colors)

Hey Everyone, I've been having difficulties really narrowing down my essay on this question.

The Question is: What are the unique qualities of Northwestern - and of the specific undergraduate school to which you are applying - that make you want to attend the University? In what ways do you hope to take advantage of the qualities you have identified?

My essay is below:
A glance at the color purple and I instantly recognize the uniqueness in Northwestern University's choice of school colors. While most schools often go with the usual hues of blue, orange, green, gold, and red, Northwestern clearly stands out among them with its vibrant contrast of white and purple. Only a school emboldened already by diversity and originality can take up such a claim.

Northwestern University is "IT", the school that is willing to take a bold chance and be different. (Hence why their school color's purple.) The school offers 15 interdisciplinary programs to students covering minors, majors, and esteemed programs that can help students excel at their disciplines. Faculties associated with Northwestern's esteemed graduate program such as Kellogg School of Management offer a variety of courses in accounting, finance, and marketing specifically designed for Weinberg students. The Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences (WCAS) encourage students to be unique. It is a school that understands that differences of even the smallest proportions are what separate success from failure. Scarcity is everything in my intended major of business, so why not develop my abilities at a school whose specialty is breeding innovation? Such subtly designed business training programs perfectly fit my expectations.

Northwestern is also the school where unity and cooperation are ultimate musts for attending students. Its fraternity and sorority organizations are promising areas where such qualities can thrive. I jump for an opportunity to interact more fervently with other peoples with similar and different interests because I can broaden my global perspective by doing so in my sophomore year. With chances like these, why should I not rush to grasp it?

As for developing a prominent social life, I hardly find that a problem. Northwestern University is only 12 miles away from downtown Chicago, the city of tall skyscrapers, busy stores, and long avenues occupied daily by thousands of people from all over the world. Diversity takes its best form in the town of Chicago with all of its exceptional landmarks and menus. More importantly, Chicago is a major financial center with the second largest central business district in the United States and is the headquarters of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. The Chicago Stock Exchange is also located there. Opportunities for market internships and community service are abundant and pertinent for the next generation of American entrepreneurs. In effect, Northwestern provides its student body with a chance at real marketing, advertising, and business campaigning. A colorful resume is vital for any career-seeker. With a better preparation for the future, the rate of success is inevitably higher. Therefore, I turn my head towards Northwestern, trusting that four life-changing years at the school is definitely worth the investment.

Can anyone help me? My main problems are: Did I focus enough on Northwestern? Are there any parts of the essay that is too ambiguous about my stand on a position?

Can anyone provide any advice or source where I can get a more personal account of the school?

Thanks!

Overall, you start out identifying boldness and diversity as the two main qualities that attract you to Northwestern, but spend most of the essay talking about the opportunities it provides. You might want to revise the essay to talk mostly about the latter.

I think you might be reading a bit too much into the choice of school colors. You might want to skip directly to the idea of Northwestern being a place of diversity and boldness.

"Scarcity is everything in my intended major of business, so why not develop my abilities at a school whose specialty is breeding innovation?" I think you used this in one of your other essays. It didn't really work there, as I recall, and doesn't do much here, either. Scarcity in what sense? How does this connect to Northwestern? Is Northwestern suffering from a scarcity of something?

"other peoples with similar and different interests" You could really just go with "other people" here, as it is a sure thing that they will have either similar or different interests to your own.

I dont understand why only purple shows that the school "emboldened already by diversity and originality" ... and red, black, orange, blue doesn't...

oh ok. Thanks!
Yeah, I was mostly experimenting here writing about school colors.

About scarcity, I'm taking an AP Economics class right now and the term "scarcity" in that sense means "rare and valuable." The more "scarce" a resource is, the more valuable (as in a higher price) it is.

About the purple part...I didn't mean it in a way that disregarded other colors as insignificant. It really was just meant to introduce the topic of Northwestern "being different".

Yes, I am familiar with the concept of scarcity. However, the term actually means "rare." Things that are rare are often, but not always, valuable. Nor does the term have any special connection to the idea of innovation, so that the way you have used the term is confusing.
